There's a video recently added to Pyrobin that caught my attention,

http://www.pyrobin.c...ew effect_1.wmv

It looks simple but for some reason I doubt it is.

Does any one have any experience in making something like that of that could recommend a starting point for me to start with.

Thanks

I may be wrong but last time I dissected a firework that had the same effect is all it was was a tube that was very similar to a rocket but without a stick. Simply a tube with a clay plug that contained a small choke( the plug was very thin). After the plug was a comet like composition which then was followed by another thin clay plug that held the time fuse.

If you look closely there are two separate devices going into the air at the same time (at the 5sec mark it's clearly visible), the cork screw effect may simply be from a hummer.

Second that, PGF.
This effect is most likely made by firing two tubes at the same time. One with a comet/crossette or similar and the other I suspect is a driver with a high content of Titanium or MgAl.
A bit like the farfalle or butterfly, only open in one end like a go-getter. As it shoot up and deaccelerate, the driver takes over and make it fly erraticly. The problem is timing, both in height and burnout..

Link failed for me but Caudacus rockets with two motors on one stick can corkscrew well

Keep mannequins and watermelons away from fireworks..they always get hurt..

This is a variant of the tourbillon (whirlwind) effect. The Chinese produce it by filling a small case with black powder composition and Titanium. The tube has a small clay choke at one end as our friend Pyrotechnist kindly illustrated. The action of firing the insert from the shot tube causes it to spin and tumble naturally, aided by the unequal force produced by the venting gases of the insert.
