I'm trying to track some HNO3 down from my local farm supplies, it was used to clean milk pasteurization machine in the past, but now seams to have been mostly replaced with concentrated H2O2.

Make Barium nitrate? I can't think of an easy way of making Barium nitrate from barium carbonate, can anyone come up with something?

I've made it several times using HNO3...the worst part is the dissolving and filtering as Barium nitrate has a low solubility so a lot of water is needed. I'd much sooner make strontium nitrate as it is much more soluble.
I did try using the acetic acid once a long time ago, but it didn't work well for me. The cost will still be high, but it is an acceptible method. I have found a source in Canada for barium nitrate at a good price, PM me if interested.
