I am doing a special effect soon and i need it to create sparks.
Basically is going to be an explosion but i want it to throw sparks from the explosion and i was wondering what i could use.

I would have thought it fairly obvious myself, but for sparks you add metal powders of varied mesh size depending on the intended application. For long lasting bright sparks use titanium.
Coarse grades of magnesium and aluminium could be used too.

could 30-150 mesh flitter Al be mixed with standard flash powder and poured into a tube for a flash maroon with white sparks?i tryed this the other night, big flash bang but no sparks 
. il just try again and get on cam then see whathappening frame by frame.

Not really. You need then smaller then 1 square millimetre to start having sparks, and preferably much smaller.would gutting up an an Al drinks can into small bits would this be fine or course enogh to make sparks ?

For small quantities of course-grained Al you can file a chunk of the metal and collect the grains of metal that are produced. Bit time consuming to get anything more than a small amount though...

Well if you cut up an old drinks can you wouldnt get sparks, you would get a fragmentation grenade, seriously not good! 
Anyone every tryed heating flint (from an ld lighter or something) so its red hot then launching it at a wall or dropping it on the ground? Big white bright sparks
