Having been one of the twelve who did the Illuminate course recently (very capably arranged by Arthur) I thought I'd add my penneth, just in case anyone is undecided as to its value. Refer back to the previous thread relating to 'share a Cat 4 course' in this section and you will see why it differs from numerous other courses already on offer. Still undecided?

The course is excellent for those serious about pyro and doing it safely and legally. It is also fully recognised by the companies that you would have to get insurance through.

Even if you have no plans for going professional it is still 100% relevant. It's also a great day, run by pro's who care very much about the industry. You also get a chance to meet fellow enthusiasts from the forum in more than 'virtual' form.

Enough said, I think

Wayne will be able to confirm the date after the silly season as Steve the trainer is busy firing shows til then!

Almost certainly the venue will be the same as before.

If anyone has an economy hotel to suggest in the local area please post the details.

If it suits Icarus then there will be an informal forum meeting at the usual site on the evening of the same date.

If the venue is as before I can recommend some cheap accommodation, the Melbourne Arms, Melbourne, Derbyshire (Just across the county border). A single room is £40 with full English breakfast included. It also has the restaurant Cuisine India, and ample carpark with CCTV surveillance. Quite simple accommodation but very welcoming - I have stayed there twice and have no complaints. It is also about five minutes' drive from the venue.

Hope that is of assistance

You give up easy :-)

Hell if it's that local (can't find any reference to an icarus palace on the net, and it doesn't ring any bells) coalville is only 20 minutes away and I travel all around the area for work.
Absolutely no idea what the course involves - but certainly be prepared to give it a go :-)

So this 'icarus palace' - any other info ? Like an address, website, post code ?

If anyone wants to stay a little further than melbourne (15 minutes) there's a couple of good sized decent b&bs just down the road from me:-
overseal house
robin hood

So you can put me down - any excuse for a day off work and the beginning ofd the year is traditionally stupidly busy, a day learning how to make things go whoossshh - would do me good :-)
Do All things with Honour and generosity: Regret nothing, Envy no-one, Apologise seldom and bow your head to No Man - works for me :-)
Oh yeah and never leave home without a lighter :-)
