Talking to a colleague from work in the pub this lunch I said we where ready to launch the rockets etc tonight and even have a pan of black peas simmering , he hadn't a clue what I was on about! ( geordie ) back at work I asked around some others and got similar results, nearest was our accountant, he's from Glossop and has heard of them but not had any....... I'm amazed!
I was brought up in rochdale where a guy on a motor trike used to go around the streets selling them at night ( HSE would have a field day with a motorbike pushing gallons of boiling water and peas around these days ). Is it just a Lancashire thing ?

Yeah we're having Black Pea's tonight!
Not sure where it's from but they're currentley steaming in the pan, they had some on the go at a Bonfire in Darcy Lever in Bolton on Saturday night aswell.

Bonfire night really means Parkin, brandy snaps and Grantham Gingerbreads. I think we should have a receipe forum too.

Black peas,.........to be honest I had never heard of them until I looked it up (mind you Im a southerner), apparently they are parched (simmering) or maple peas which were popular around Bury & Bolton as well, and served around bonfire night.
Eaten from a disposable cup with a spoon and served with salt & vinegar = sounds good to me! ,.......mind you I love me pie mash & liquor so im biased,.....yum yum!

Being from the North East nothing tends to get eaten but an awfull lot of beer is consumed lol
