now i know there not STRICTLY pyrotechnics but, has anyone ever made them? because i think that £5 each is verry deere! i used to practise oraigmi and i know how to make this like hollow ball , i fix a peice of wire onto it, and then secure a BBQ fire starter brick onto the bottom of it, (exactly like a hot air balloon) and then thats lighted and the heat compells the contraption to fly high into the air! ...or thats how its ment to work. has anyone ever made one before? or do you have any idears? il keep you posted abbout how it goes, i think that if it works thay will be quite elagent in the sky.

ha ha ha ....i made one of these when i was a lad....In my mums kitchen.

i used tissue paper ( very very thin ).....glued together to make a ball.......then a tea light below it.....

Cue large fire in kitchen, fire extinguisher ripped off wall, and entire house filled with a strange burning smell, and small peices of ash.

Never did try it again after that......

i used to do origami too, and i can spell it !!!! i made a thousand cranes, and laid them down in the peace park at Hiroshima.

did you achually lay them down there?

and im dyslexic so thats why i cant spell verry well. i could make them with a bin bag, but one - there not eco freindly (see im a vegertarain, and id thay land in the sea or rivver fish/ animals could die) and thay need a bin bag to inflate them before the flame

bin bag should work.....so long as its light, and airtight.

Yes, i did ACTAULLY go all the way to Hiroshima and lay them down.

pehaps, given you are eco friendly, you use the lanterns from http://www.lanternshop.co.uk/

theyre fully biodegradable - even the basering is made from bamboo. theyre big too, at 1m tall, and a half metre wide. they're also made from fireproof material......AND come with a fuel cell.

£32 for 10 lanterns, delivered.

I'm ordering some for a wedding thats coming up next year.

Oddly enough, Skylighters latest newsletter shows you how to make them.
