You're correct; some stuff at a genuine half price is good value, assuming it's original worth was reflected accurately in the original rrp. But realistically, how often do you come across this?

What I'm trying to say is, the worth of KF/FI product is represented quite accurately in the original rrp. The worth of lesser brands is often represented in the discounted price more accurately than in the quoted rrp.

To open this discussion up further, as a matter of interest, what half price stuff have members come across that reflects good or not so good value? (excluding after season sales and wholesale trade prices)

The only half price shop I went to this year was "Big Ds" in Preston, nominally doing quite a large Bright Star selection at half the RRP. They let themselves down with poor service and lack of stock . However, to be fair, the two items I got were decent at half price - a 16 shotter at £8, and a cake at £10. At full RRP they would have been OK.

All 3 of the cakes I got from Big D's were pretty weak, mainly because the flashpowder had been removed and they were new reg.

The fountains and wheels were good however.

I saw the shop stash round the back, they bassically had Bright Stars entire range in there as far as I could see, a hell of a lot more than what was on display at the counter or in the leaflets and all at half RRP.

Its no secret I only used Epic this year for a number of reasons, and was just as happy as last year, thought as usual very good prices, good service and a great range.

I was going to get a few bits from Fireworks emporium but they stopped doing a number of items I wanted this year and also their early bird offers a number of items went up in price on the run up to bonfire night so their was no actual saving on a lot of items which I pointed out to them and didnt get any sort of response.

After seeing the range kimbolton have I think will be using a few bits from their range next year, didnt realise they had as much as they did and have never had anything from the range before so eager to try.

There is a lot of good stuff in the Kimbolton range. They tend to give accurate descriptions, too, of their fireworks, rather than choosing a funky name and sending up random effects.

I got the Coliseum Roman candle pack yesterday- haven't tried them yet, but they look like good quality small roman candles- one is mini-mines, another crackling, one is hummers etc. Come to think of it, I haven't seen many roman candle packs like this recently. They used to be quite popular, and generally quite cheap, around £4.99.

I know I'm just being pedantic here, but the 2008-2009 catalogue has them at £10.99!

I think that is because the quality of the effects is above the normal standard. At a nominal price of £2.20 they are decent value.

£10.99 for a pack of 5 candles , so £2.20 per firework... I did say nominal price- I wasn't suggesting that retailers open the packs and sell them individually!

Sorry, I missed the point (didn't realise you were referring to the individual candle price)
