i have a question for you.

where did you get your nitric acid and can you get more?

There are a few companies that will send you the naughty strengths fully legally too. Although they do have a £50 minimum order value (so worth getting a few other interesting supplies at the same time). So long as you are reasonably honest and tell them that you want it for home chemistry and maybe list a couple of appropriate experiments they will sell it to you.
Phew that was close.

Dilute-ish nitric acid (hence not suitable for making naughty things  ) is suprisingly available int' UK, used in hydroponics - just do a search for "pH down".

This (easier to find) dilute 5-10% conc. nitric acid will still make nitrates just fine, but in lower quantities. Also, depending on the price, it may cost more than the concentrated stuff due to the low yield. But, if that's all you can get, then I guess you have no choice.

The stuff I've seen for hydroponics is actually about 35%, so still reasonably strong
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....
