I have heard of Gilsonite as a USA natural brittle tar material that can be ground to dust, and used as fuel. BUT not specifically for rockets. May be worth more research before you spent lots of money.

I made some small prototypes using Galcit Alt 161 from here,
http://www.privateda...pfp/rocket.html ,
I think this formula was used in J.A.T.O. units rather than free flying rockets.
I bought the Gilsonite from an on line art supply shop,
it came as a fine powder.
For various reasons,I don't see it as a viable amateur rocket propellant,of course, others may think differently.
Some people on here have had success with resin/wood glue in place of the Gilsonite.
Unfortunately I lost most of my research when I buggered up my computer,http://www.pyrosociety.org.uk/forum/style_images/1/folder_post_icons/icon5.gif
but if you have specific questions I'll recall what I can.
