Most single break round shells will fall freely down the mortar in my experience, though occasionally you get some 2.5 or 3" with "lumpy" quickmatch or a stiff plastic bag that will stick particularly in a damp tube - larger ones normally have more weight and hence will go down of their own accord. Cylinder shells and particularly double break "peanut" shells can be rathermore of a pain in any calibre.
