Hi everyone,

as i said before, I haven't posted in a while but that doesn't mean my dedication has stopped!

I have finally secured a shipment of potassium perchlorate for Australians (cleared customs and ready for sale), this is a major event on the time-line for Australian hobbyists! It is a super fine, 99.5% chinese perchlorate from a specialist pyrotechnics company, the finest quality I have ever come across.

For now it won't be listed on my auschems.com website, you will just have to send an email via the website if you want some. This is partially so it doesn't attract as much attention, and partially so every man and his dog can't just log on and buy it (aka kids with emails pokemon95@hotmail.com who ask "hw can i bloe stuff up lol" can be screened out easily as well as suspicious amounts/activity). It will be $30-$35 per kg and cheaper for more, down to $25/kg, which really is a massive saving since previously the only viable source I knew of was specialist chem suppliers charging $130 for 500g, and that's if they would sell it to you.

I guess now I just need to stock some quality chlorine donors and we are all set! To the moderators- I know this probably sounds like an advertisement which you won't allow, but I really believe it is a milestone for Australian hobbyists and should be shared.

There has been a fair bit of interest, great to see there are still some active Aussies on the forum!

I still haven't located a cheap supply of chlorine donors, so I guess there won't be many bright colours going around haha.

I can say that someone in Aus has a great deal of Parlon currently if he wants to make himself known?

I am quite interested in getting some (maybe a couple kilos). I need some for colours in stars.
I have been making glitter stars etc but want to try something new.
Its great that there is someone out there acquiring these hard-to-get-chemicals in Australia!

While I am not saying that Potassium perchlorate is not very useful in colour production, do not expect to be able to make colours only with it.

Chlorine donors, and good fuels are just as important.

For example, you do not need Potassium perchlorate to make green, but without using Ammonium perchlorate or Barium chlorate, you can not get a usable green without Magnalium or another suitable metal fuel.

So I suggest you also get:

Barium nitrate
Strontium carbonate (or nitrate)
Copper (II) oxide (black)
Parlon (or another good chlorine donor)
Magnalium (or very fine Aluminium - the type you might use in flash - you want it to burn cleanly or sparks will wash out the flame)
An assortment of organic fuels.

I have obtained all of those online by an Australian apart from the barium chlorate.

Sorry to post redundant information. It is just amazing how often I come across people who think that with Black powder type chemicals + Potassium perchlorate they can make anything.

You have Ammonium perchlorate?? It is lovely stuff! I've been making some nice red strobes with it lately.

I look forward to seeing some pretty effects popping up over the Tasman

I do not have ammonium perchlorate, barium chlorate nor potassium perchlorate but they are all very high on my list of chemicals to get.
I wish it was easier to get chemicals but I guess thats just part of the fun of pyrotechnics.
