Wray Scarecrows is a nice one- every year, in the week before May Day (so right now) the village of Wray is decorated by scarecrows built to a theme, which are then displayed outside people's houses and in fields etc throughout the village. This years theme is TV shows. Bank holiday Monday is the main day, with a carnival, but it gets madly busy- we usually like to drive up and walk round on the Friday before.

Until recently, Alnwick in the North East had a traditional fayre, with costumes, stalls shows and a ducking stool, dating from the 70s I think, but it lost a lot of its appeal and originality, and the last one being in 2007.
