Pyro PDC commercial QM does not fail due to its own devices if it ever did fail to ignite anything it would be down to user error. Waterproofing it is easy as all you need to do is roll a wrap of brown parcel tape round the casing.

though your probably right phill 63 about making it would be less messing about but from what from what iv been told even commercial QM can fail. so though i love making pyro, theres so many things that can fail. buying QM at least its one less thing to worry about. Also as far as i know i cant make waterproof QM which is a major advantage.

if you have good quality BP i also can't see why it would fail, " its realy not that hard to make, as far as concistency is concerned, i'm sure for the home hobbyist that there would be no noticable difference between 1 nano second and 2 nano seconds " and if you batched your match it would all be consistant...... as for water proof quick match i cannot comment, but if its just water resistance you are after then use wax paper for you match pipe

£2.00 per metre. Wish I was selling it. It is around £2.50 to £3.00 per 10m for Chinese made flat match if you can buy it from a legitimate firework company. (that was last year, prices have risen quite bit apparently).

Schedule 1 of COER exempts UN101 from the requirements of obtaining an Explosives Certificate.

MSER Regulation 10.2.b(ii)(bb) negates the need for a storage licence for up to 5 kilograms of item(s) as listed in Schedule 1 of COER.

EC Directive 2004/57 – states that UN101 is outside the scope of POMSTER (CE marking and RCA documentation)

Therefore, it is legal to store up to 5kg of QM (as classified UN101) without an explosives certificate or an RCA document.

Hobby rocket companies dont really exist, well they dont in a commercial sense. All existing hobby rocket companies dont really make any financial sense at all to operate. Most have part time or full time jobs in order to pay their bills because the rocket company doesnt make enough. They are operating in a niche market with a small audience and mainly exist because the people running them are mad on rockets, want to help people fly rockets. They certainly dont exist for commercial reasons. Pyro people on this forum who also fly rockets know that we are in the business cos we are mad on rockets not mad on making money.

OK so lets take quickmatch as an example. We buy it at £1.10+VAT and sell it at £1.95 including VAT. A healthy margin yes, 54% markup according to my maths. But remember your storage costs for storing a bit of quickmatch and nil. Ours are enormous for storage, insurance, explosives cover for commercial van travel, alarms, monitoring, security, licenses, the list is endless and so are the bills. So making 54% on a product that you sell about 10-20metres a month on and bring direct to the rocketeers at a meeting isnt going to make us any money, you can be sure of that.

Thanks Richard. We sell the green coated (twin cord ) ICI stuff. It fits just right in Estes motors and if you take one cord out and fold over the paper it jams just nice into the Estes motor igniter hole.

I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere but you either have to buy lots or spend £20 in diesel going and getting it or both spend £25-£30 getting it shipped to you. This stuff is very local to me so almost free to get in shipping terms. As I only get 20m or so at a time, whats the point in spending £20 in diesel to go and pickup say 20m of quickmatch at 20p a meter instead fo £1.10. The maths say I would be spending £20 on diesel to save £18 on the quickmatch.

If anyone knows where I can buy the green twin corded quickmatch at a price that actually makes commercial sense (i.e. remember to include the cost of running a commercial van with explosives insurance and diesel and wear and tear) buying it a few skeens at a time then please let me know. I have spent many hours looking and phoning over the years and never found anyone that actually beats what I have now.

99% sure the stuff you are on about is the Spanish Igual match. Kimbolton stock this, but given you are in Canterbury, it would be a bit of a drive

My supplier sells quickmatch 60p a meter i've nether ordered any as i dont need it
