I am completley new on this forum and so hope this isnt in the wrong place or has been discussed to death.
In the UK I know that any shells 8" or larger are classified as 1.1G and there is know shipping available to carry them here from china. However what are the laws on making 1.1G shells in the UK and what would then be the transportation limitations on transporting them withing the UK (for example taking them to a diplay.)
Hope someone has an awnser

There are still people importing up to 12" into the UK at the moment.
There are also companies here that will make up to 16" if you ask them nicely!!
As for the law, i would guess ADR classification needed and you can only carry a certain weight at that, but wait and see what others say.

As far as I can see, the laws for making 1.1G shells are much the same as those for making 1.3G shells. There may be additional storage costs depending on your existing facilities but road transport within the UK under ADR is still quite feasible. Whether your insurer agrees is another matter.
Our Illuminate Consult Cat 4 course detailed 20 different legislative acts just for fireworks operators. It's a mish-mash of legislation that never quite agrees. Several companies I know of have stopped using 1.1G for 'commercial reasons' and only do 1.3. I'd be very interested to hear the detailed reasons behind this.

Generally no shipping company will carry 1.1G, other than those operating special explosives vessels which are a lot more expensive than standard container vessels. However large shells that have a shell-of-shells effect can be classified as 1.3G if they're shipped without the lift charge, so the supply won't have totally dried up. Besides which some enterprising chaps may be starting up UK production of biggies soon . Regarding transport inside the UK, regulations aren't too onerous as long as you keep the NEQ below 50Kg, so if you want to have some 1.1 material in a show, just send that via a separate vehicle

All shells are cat4 so a great starting point is the Cat4 course that the society is promoting in the training forum. All shells are big enough to hurt you, or get you into trouble so some training at the start to support some experience will assist you staying safe and legal.
