As you know the chemical symbol for copper is Cu and in latin means Cuprum or cupric,so cupric is the old name for copper,i'm not sure if its still called cupric over there, anyone???

"ic" and "ous" are use to establish the oxidation state, it`s pretty redundant now though but still used in some chemical nonmenclature, it usually now preferred to state the Oxidation (I) (II) (III) etc...

as for CuO, I`ve not seen it directly used in any pyro formula myself.

Check Richard's link to fountain formulas (http://paraphysics.c...sswick_gerb.jpg) Its directly used in the Purple and the Turquoise formulas.

Also, check the PFP for blue star formulas with CuO

Finally, while I am here... A STUNNING blue fountain that is rather modified from one I found on cannonfuse.com...

NH4ClO4 7
Shellac 0.5
Fine Caster Sugar 2
CuO 1
Ti Sponge I just used a pinch...

Its a stunning formula, I pressed into a 1/2inch case and got a 7inch blue blame with crackling Ti, really really nice.

Regards,

Mike

Get some good books and you will be fine :) Lancaster's Fireworks Principles & Practice is a fantastic addition to anyone's library, go obtain a copy from Kimbolton Fireworks is my advice.

Thanks. i've just tested my first batch of microstars and look forward to using them in a fountain. What is the ID of a 3/4lb tube?

Tested out a titanium fountain today, using a formula I had had success with in the past. 1" ID, 8mm nozzle. I was hoping for a slightly longer burn time, and a lower burn height! It reached an easy 30ft, but only lasted a few seconds. Uploading a video to youtube currently.
