I ordered a few dozen hemis and several bags of tubes from them, paying around USD 20 shipping for a smallish box if I remember correctly. They're not particularly heavy. Take a look st the USPS website for First Class International rates.

after looking everywhere for plastic shells, in the UK was expensive and in the USA the postage cost more than the product. So I gave up and decided to buy paper shells from sp fireworks and invest into a W.A.S.P to automatically paste them. (in will pay for it self very quickly)

I went there which redirected to moonfruit.com

It seemed to be a website selling website design ?

It said nothing about pyro at all

I'm guessing you meant moonfruit.org ?

So, let me get this straight. Shipping of plastic hemispheres from the US was too expensive, so you bought an $1800 machine, and had it shipped over? For that price you could have gotten a mountain of plastic hemispheres from Plasticos Gamon in Spain. They're higher quality than the stuff available here.

the wasp with shipping was about £1000 ok not the cheapest of products but a good investment i think.

in the uk a 4" paper shell would cost me about 40p each, or £1.40 each for plastic in the uk (usa would cost about the same by the time postage was added.)

or 1.40 each for a 6" paper shell or £3 each plastic. doesn't take long to pay for it self though it depends how many you make.

(i cant say how much gammon shells are direct (though they are very good quality) but last i brought 3"gammon plastic shells in the uk was 90p each but again paper would cost about 25p)

Which WASP have you gone for? That sounds rather cheap. The wasp4 with shipping and duty works out over £2K

P.S. Don't forget to add the cost of the gummed tape in your calculations. It still works out cheaper, but you will use rather allot of gummed paper.

Phew that was close.

i brought the Stinger which does 2" up to 8", good price I thought at around 1K (though i wanted the wasp 4 as it does up to 12" shells I didn't think i would go above 8" for a long time).

Methinks you could make a WASP-like machine for an awful lot less - project for the winter evenings!

I tend to agree that it would be possible to make one for allot less. It all just depends on how impatient you are I suppose. An awful lot of work needs to go into the algorithm to get the strips right. It would be a pre-requisite that you have a good electronics and programing knowledge, which I know you have Phil.

So maybe you could knock me one up? Only kidding

P.S. PyroPDC does that include import duty?
