I used to go to Sweden very regularly with work (the quiet east coast), not so often now. I always thought it was a pretty laid back place which was pretty sensible on the whole.

It's a pretty nice country but with too much regulations in my opinion, though obviously nothing compared with the UK.

It has to be said though you have a far lower population density than we do here (which can be an issue when trying to get out of the way to fire some pyro).

When I was younger I was into HE. I once blew up an ammonium perchlorate based bomb on several kilos far out in the woods. It became a great crater but nothing else happened. In a denser populated country the cops might have busted me in no time.

Some interesting policies on immigration though, at least there were a few years ago.

Speaking of speed limits: our maximum speed limit in Sweden is 120 kmph or about 75 mph like in the US, though I think that is far too low. 150 or 160 kmph would be more suitable. But the laws are made for the idiots and not for the people with common sense.

Something is utterly wrong with your country. I thought Sweden was a semi-Soviet shithole when I was younger, but the UK is 10 times worse. Gun bans. Surveillance cameras in every corner. Heavy restrictions on chemicals. Police state. Et cetera.

Your not wrong Pyroswede,...........add to that;- highest divorce rate + largest proportion of single lone parents, plus we work the longest hours, and have a youth drinking culture thats the worst in europe!

Well, they can't f**k with people if people don't accept it.

In the USA pro-gunners have started to carry guns openly, when Obama speaks in places where they have the right to carry (i.e. in the most of the USA). Here in Europe it's already too late for that, but the Yanks show the ones in charge that the people should have the power in a democracy.

Well, they can't f**k with people if people don't accept it.

They can and do f**k with the people here. So many times new laws have been rushed and forced through by this Government, with little or no support, and sometimes massive opposition.
Turns out they have made over 3600 new ways to criminalse the public since they came to power in 1997. An average of nearly one a day.

Their ongoing corruption, scandal and stupidity continues to astound me.
I feel ashamed to give up, but this country is beyond salvation i fear. I want to move to Italy or Spain once I'm in a position to do so.

Todays stupid new rule is:

Scouts are no longer allowed to take pen - knives on camping trips! (the Times front page today)

Not law but just my other hatrid of stupid H&S officers, they think they have to bring something new in otherwise they have no job to do. So if everything is hunky dory they will just pick the next thing they spot that could be a potential hazard. I prefer to just stand still when they do thier little inspections incase they ban me from walking, as i may fall over.

As much as I want to (and often do) swear and fume, the better thing is to do something about it.

These people need to be challenged. Next time some H&S nutcase says you can't stand on a chair to hang a picture, just do it and get everyone in the office to do it as well! (if you fall off just say, oh well, it's MY responsibility).

If they did bring in a 50 MPH speed limit, I'd love to be part of a convoy of (say) 500 cars going up the motorway at 80 - can't arrest us all...

I believe that in some countries which tried to introduce speed cameras they were destroyed so regularly and completely that the authorities gave up and did something to improve road safety instead of make money.
