Thanks for the replies guys. :D

U should have seen it in real life, the effect of the stars doesn't show as well on this poor video.
It was a huge break, this is what I used:

11mm modified crys6 stars,I primed the stars with a layer of crys6.
6:1 bp/hulls main breakcharge
2 grams chlorate/benzoate wistle booster
liftcharge: 20 gram riced BP
3'' plastic hemmies glued together with methelene chloride, no extra pasting or fibretape added.

This is the (very simple) formula:

80% crysantium 6
20% 250 mesh atomised aluminiumpowder(tiranti)
Dextrin was ballmilled with the crys6 mix.

Hi all

Would it be possible to make a nice pretty blue collor with Kno3 and Copper Sulfate.

I can't get my hands on KCLO4 so i'd have to stick to KNO3.

Thnx

In a word. No

Blue is quite hard, even with the correct chemicals. With KNO3 it is absolutely impossible. There are several discussions on the forum about getting good blues.

Yeah, there's a lot of questions about trying and always failing to get a blue, or really any color except red/purple with a Nitrate. Look on the forum for the post about the colored thermites... Does anybody have a long list of colored formulas for a non-perchlorate-challenged amateur? Preferrably something with copper sulfate and strontium carb.
When one plays with fire, one is bound to get burndt.

With nitrates, green and red colours are fine, but there's not much point bothering to attempt a decent blue. It's just not going to happen.

I've never seen a star formula containing Strontium Carbonate that didn't use Kcl04 as the main oxidiser. Strontium Nitrate however, will produce a lovely red.

Copper Sulphate has very little use.

So basicly for stars i need a stronger oxidizer than KNO3 something like
KCLO3 or KCLO4 .

I Just have to find some.

Care to share these green and red formulas you can produce with KNO3? If you mean green as in granite I already know of that but red is something I havn't been able to do.

I said Nitrates, as in Barium Nitrate and Strontium Nitrate. Then, of course there are other exotic nitrates that spring to mind, but I have no experience with them.

IIRC, Weingart lists a few Kn03 colours - pink, and mabye an off red. Not sure about green. I'll look them up for you later.

Remember to get good colours you need a source of Cl too - that is why (per)chlorates are the best bet. You CAN use KNO3 at a pinch, but you will need to add some Cl to get a half-decent colour.

Weingarts' pinks being those pearl streamers with insanly high amounts of zinc ? :( Its cheap and all at $10/kg for dust but its so dense.

Sorry about the KNO3 thing, forgot about the other nitrates :( *Slaps head*

Any suggestions for fuels or colourants for KNO3 based colours are welcome :) I was thinking of getting some strontium carbonate but not too sure if it would be any use. I don't mind not getting pure colours, pastels are fine, pink from trying to get a red would be awsome anyway. Basicly I am after any colours because tailed stars are getting boring - glitters can only be a novelty so long.

I think Daniel needs to build hmself and electrolytic cell. :)

You can do Red and Green with nitrates, the method Phoenix posted should work for Strontium Nitrate as well as Barium Nitrate. The green will be whitish, and the red will be orangish without some chlorine but magnesium can help I've found.
