made my first stars a few days ago :D fair enough they were only tiger tail ones but they seem to be pretty good. i made a smaill mortar and fil one of my rocket tubes with some stars and granulated BP. at the top of the tube i made it like i would with a rocket ( compressed cat litter ) then once it was filled i covered the bottom with cat litter and put the fuse in and sealed with hot glue.as intended it shot out of the mortar and went about 25m high then exploded.im not sure if the star and bp ignited or if the tube just blew up. can anyone suggest a beeter way to make these with a small firework tube ?

Hey, well done! You have the basics in place... As always with fireworks the Devil's in the detail...

First of all, check that your tigertail stars are igniting properly. Make some more and fire them from a mine to test. I ball mill my tigertail comp to make pumped stars and make sure they are really dry before use.

Your rocket tubes are probably quite strong and the end-plugs will fail in the burst rather than tube itself. If there's enough clearance in your mortar, maybe try side fusing the shell tube in the middle with cardboard plugs either end. You'll get a decent bang and an attractive 'butterfly wing' effect in the sky.
