im planning on making a ball mill. i have a SMA infant milk tin. was wondering if this would be suitable for it or would it be dangerous because its metal????

I wouldn't use it for several reasons:

If it is steel it will spark.

If it is aluminium it will just deform after thousands of little impacts with lead balls.

The lid will drop off, as they need to hold on very firmly. Mine has 2 seperate lids with a brass screw connecting them together to line them up.

It will make a horrible noise. Most barrels are rubber or plastic because they are hard wearing, do not spark and don't make anywhere near as much noise as metal on metal impacts would.

There are lots of freely available plastic containers around that will do the job for a while, but you are better off with a specially designed mill jar with non slip outer coating as a slippy plastic jar can get stuck on the rollers.

Not my choice of mill jar! It will be short lived and very noisy, and the lid may come off when you hadn't planned, making a MESS.
