Just a basic question- I felt it was relevant to post here in case people were wondering the same thing.

The society requests proof of age and proof of address. Would a single document (such as a drivers licence) be enough for both, or does the item (photocopy of) that proves age need to be different from the item that proves address?
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

I used my driving licence for both with no problems.

Lots of interested people do not have a driving licence especially if they are under age. A driving licence is one way of proving age and address.

Yes, thats understandable.

However, for people that DO have a drivers licence, I was asking if that alone is enough- presumably it is.

A driving licence would be proof of both age and address - you would not need two documents in this case.

Sigh, my sticking point - I'm a member of the forums, but at the grand old age of 41years I do not have a driving license (never bothered
above a provisional donkeys years ago and do not have a current passport - so have not attempted to join yet.

It will take me days (if ever) to find a birth certificate amongst my present attic junk.

I can however prove I'm a doctor to anyone just by giving them my GMC number to crosscheck.

Suggestions??

Passport (presumably an out of date one serves the same purpose- a persons date of birth is unlikley to change) and a utility bill are also recommended on the form.

Possibly something like a works-card (if bonafide) could prove age if passport is unavailable.

A GMC number would be acceptable, combined with proof of address and the usual passport-style photo. For all intents and purposes, an expired passport would also be accepted unless we had some particular reason to query it.

All the best,

In Sweden we have something called a personal number, that we get when we are born. All foreigners who get Swedish citizenship also get one. It was introduced already in 1946. It consists of our birth date and four numbers in addition, like this: 740601-xxxx. The person having this was born on the 1th of June 1974. On the last four numbers you can see if the person is a male or female and whether the person was born a Swedish citizen or not.

It's a bit scary and fascist/communist-like, but it's a good help when someone needs to prove who they are. If you order anything, your dealer can immediately call the tax authorities and check that you are the one you claim to be.

We have something similar with our National Insurance numbers but unfortunately only the Government has the ability to check them.

e.g. Tax, State Benefits, Customs etc
