As the topic says, it would be interesting from my perspective and I'm sure also for the various display companys on the forum what types of music people like to hear at a display.

This may sound obvious but please do not just choose the type of music you would normally listen to, think what goes well with a display, even if you don't particularly like the style of music.

I have allowed people to select multiple answers as there may be different times in the display that call for different styles. If there is a particular song you think would go well with a display then it also may be worth posting.

Thanks,
Paul

Alternative- novelty, corny, comedy songs can sometimes work- just a bit of fun, a bit light hearted. Rock and upbeat pop are generally good, basic stuff tends to suit I think.

Techno/Metal and all that style is more specialist, so doesn't really suit.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

Most styles of music will suit a firework display, it depends on what parts of a particular tracks you want to use for sampling, effect & timing etc.

below are some pieces that I would include (althought not necessarily all the track).

Midnight juggernauts "In To The Galaxy".

Dargaard "Thy Fleeing Time"

Within Temptation "Angels"

Nightwish "Nemo"

Music from old TV series work well, i.e; Thunderbirds (even the incidental pieces)

I think it's appropriate to have music that suits the client, and their likes. Maybe I wouldn't use thrash metal at a wedding show. A town civic show could use something specially local (local composer or pop group etc) a national civic show could use a major nationalistic classical piece Zadok the Priest, or similar.

I want a Deep Purple mix starting with Smoke on the Water as a track for a firework show.

Where's the option for 'none - it detracts from the overall look of the show'? <_<

Although it seems great when a single-shot comet candle lifts on a beat there's no place for that type of firework in a 'proper' display. ;)

Perhaps you may change your mind if you look at the website promoting the "Crackers" event on the 26.9.09 in Northants!

Dont get me wrong when done well a show can look great to music and i apprecieate the effort that goes into it, having spent ages wiring this type of show but its just me i prefer the sound the fireworks make, thats why i like them especially big shells, nobody walks away from a display saying"wasnt that fountain great!" they come away saying "that massive one was ace did you hear the bang it made!!!" its a bloke thing bigger is better

If you are going to play music during a show I think you have to do something constructive with it. In my opinion it is either superfluous to it (or even a distraction) or something that becomes an integral and seamless part of it. The latter requires precise timing, something beyond most of us I would imagine (and most of the big display companies from what I've seen anyway).

However, if a track is played as a prelude I think it can work well to set the mood and tempo for a show.

Other than that why complicate things, let the fireworks do the talking. After all they are an art form in themselves that provide their own voices.

Classical works best from what I'v seen and does add something, BUT, for me no music, can't beat the thump from a shell lifting, and break :D
