I was on 10 downing streets E petitions website LINK and was surprised on many petitions was on the site for the full ban on all fireworks in the uk even to the extreme of banning manufacturing in the uk.

I even saw one for banning any fireworks within 200m of a horse. (ohhhhhh OK never mind any other animal lol but are these people even in today's reality.)

I would love to get into a debate with one of these people.

maybe the UKPS should start a E-petition to defend our uk's Pyro heritage and freedom of use, just to let them no not everyone is anti pyro. who knows if we don't start to defend what we believe, the government might start to listen to these crazy people.

What do you think?

Dear Pyro Friends:

Those people, they do not have anything better to do ?
What will be next: ban hunting ? ban football ? ban pet animals ? car races ? ban circus and its acrobacy ? wahtever !

Intolerance is a desease worse than AIDS.

Who does not like fireworks is allowed not to assist any display. But why some guy of those will proibit
our pleasure and happiness. Ah, I see: fireworks are dangerous ! That's our problem ! Not of them, I am not a child and do not need their guardianship.

Yours truely, folks:

First class idea.
As a Guy Fawkes Night regular (40 years plus) I usually post on the consumer board and have raised this very point.
Unfortunately some members appear to me to be sitting firmly on the fence with this issue (vested interests perhaps) - but not all !!

I appreciate the difficulties but is a petition something that the members of this forum should be doing as a matter of course ?

just an idea but maybe we could use the ukps leaflet to promote a petition to save the English heritage and would ideal because it would be going to the consumer market (the end user that buys the fireworks.) who better than people who use the products and are unhappy with the way the government seem to be shaping and regulating the firework industry.

it would be a great way to promote the ukps goals maybe to team up with other uk firework forums to promote the petition.

Again, though, why would fireworks shops be keen to hand out leaflets that suggest that the firework industry is being "shaped" , and by implication the performance of products is being altered for the worse?
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

The thing is if people are unhappy with the products (due to new regulations ect) it looks bad on the retailer / seller. if things continue the way the government are trying to shape it then retailers with be the ones that lose out maybe out of business. what more of a great reason but to save there livelihood.

I am a prime example, i used to spend about £500 on nov 5th and now iv lost all faith in the products, that's £500 from one customer gone.

maybe as a incentive we could even list on the ukps site a list of all the retailers that have signed up to the leaflet and to promote the petition.
maybe we could get some window stickers made up "SAVE OUR FIREWORK HERITAGE" OK maybe im getting ahead of myself

General Observation:

Dear Pyro Friends:

There is a cultural necessity of fireworks in our modern society.

The modern society is full of virtual things:
- The music you listen to, even in a concert is not real. It passes a microphone, afterwards an equalizer and its DJ, the is amplified and put out with a loud-speaker.
- Films pass cuts, digitalization and some manipulation, before being presented.
- So do photographs. Portraits are manipulated: ugly people become beautiful in them.

These things cause nostalgia to reality in our society.
-The Canadian Cirque-do-Soleil demand very expensive admissions to see their acrobacies, all real without
any computerized tricks. And they have success.
- Nothing against fully computerized luxury wrist watches, even with full 18-k-gold-case. But the purely
mechanical swiss watch is still made and sold very well, inspite of its very hight price, because its mechanical movement is a real and not a virtual thing.
- There are other examples, too. But let's stop here.

Fireworks are real:
- Its noise does not need microphone nor loud-speaker.
- Its stenchy but pretty smell of burnt black powder is real.
- So are their smokes. Climatic influences upon them, like wind or air humidity are real.
- If a display shell goes wrong, there is no cut and try-it-again, like in a film. It failed and nobody
can hide its failure.
- The colours are real and cannot be bettered by digital manipulation: blue is blue or not, green is green or not.
- Authorities must control security distance between a diplay and its onlookers. But the life danger of the display shooters, they undergo, is real. They are people like circus acrobats or animal tamers.

Truely both: firework manufacturer and display shooters are tamers of modern chemistry. Fascinating artists and people you have to respect. So you have to do with their jobs.

That's all, folks.
Yours truely:
Toivo

Can I also suggest a great way of gaining thousands of hand written signatures within the next four weeks.

If you really want to get numbers up on this petition, approach every dedicated fireworks retail outlet and ask if they would be interested in obtaining a signature from every single customer that walks through the door. It's in the shop keepers interest and it's in the customers interest.

Maybe draught up a petition template for them to print off?

I'm with you on the E-petition too.

This needs to be done quick sharp I would say. To miss out on this seasons opportunities would be a very real shame!!!

Who is going to be creating this, I will DEFINATLY sign it as this country without fireworks......... cant bare thinking about it :o will suck even more than it does currently. The people trying to get fireworks banned are just a bunch of morons who need to get laid, simple as that.

So lets all do our part and try and stop them from going any worse than they are getting and maybe get some things changed in a few years time. :)

Ok guys, this is roughly what I would say in a E petition,...if anyone would wants add or change this, then please do!

We the undersigned petition the prime minister; To refute any possibility that the government is considering an outright ban on firework manufacturing in the uk, and to create a national firework school with accredited vocational qualifications.

Our firework heritage & culture is something to be proud of in many ways,...from bonfire night celebrations in our back gardens to the great free public displays like (Brock`s benefit) of the last few centuries,..... and this is without mentioning the inventions created by pyrotechnists who gave there lives to help save others and our country from invaders in the last two world wars, i.e The Dover flare, Anti Zeppelin Bullet, Smoke Screens etc.

More importantly for the future, is the developement of firework manufacturing in the uk from hobbyist level to commercial status for science, art, engineering, and above all youth development..... and in teaching respect when handling or creating pyro devices for entertainment reasons, or in terms of job creation and the UK economy.
