[Spyrotechnics]

the best of the bunch in my opinion are

Kimbolton 5metre 16 shot cakes (Rising Phoenix, Whistling Jets, Apricots in Blossom, Sapphire Spray - my fave)
Kimboltons Glittering Gemstones, 8 fountains, one fuse, loud crackling finish

Slightly larger effects can be found in Absolute Fireworks 8metre range - alas I haven't had chance to use them yet but I hear good things

I have been requested to arrange a firework display for my kids local primary school (boy was i pleased to be asked spending someones elses money instead of mine)


Ideally I would love a visit to Epic but I am not sure I can justify a 6 hour round trip and approx £70 on petrol/food etc. there are nearer retailers but not with the selection and prices that Epic offer.

I know I'm coming in a bit late on this but I'm sure Epic will deliver for free if you're spending £500

You've said that it's 6hrs drive for one supplier or 2 to the other so FC seems to win! You were at the demo night and saw lots of their stock. I could easily pick a pleasant and interesting 20 minute show from their shownight listing. Start with something gentle, build to something bigger, louder and more entertaining.

I'd start with fountains and move on to up-cakes, fan-cakes, wheels, candles, fan and up mine cakes then some rockets and a nice finalé piece possibly a Hercules.

Added:
Howling Wolves was a cheap cake that got a LOT of good comment from the crowd.

Hi pmhcfc - Epic will deliver free one of their 'display' packs and to be honest that offers spectacular value but I don't think one of the display packs exactly meets my needs. Epic will not post single fireworks so I would have to buy a complete carton. So if there's 12 in a box i have to buy all 12. They only supply single fireworks if you collect.

Hi Arthur - thanks very much for your input.

The hercules 2 did look very good didn't it? On my notes for the evening I put a 'Very Good - WOW' next to it Great ending.

I will be sitting down over the next week and settling on exactly what I want and the order I will be setting them off. I will be getting my hands on the cash this week - cannot come soon enough !!

Another tip- a good purchace would be the "Launch Kontrol" system- very useful for setting off firework in multiples.

Another tip- be sure to make your finale something special- its the part everyone will remember!

When you've gotten the 'stash' , make sure you post what you did get as I'll be very interested
what you can get for £500 in respect of the sort of display you will be putting on.

Im sure what you will spend on petrol/food you will more than make up for in savings once your there.

Where abouts are you from Hornet as im doing a 6 hour round trip there on the 24 October if you live anywhere near the cumbrian west coast we could maybe split the costs.

If not then definetly take Paul up on his offer, he his very approachable and knows his stuff and also knows how to keep his customers happy

Gigantic Crab!!! says: forget the 20 minute length requested. 10 mins is plenty for almost everyone and at least you will have a chance of putting on a memorable display. 20 mins of big Cat4 fireworks can get boring, stretch your budget over that length and it will end up being piss poor.
My only other advice would be to spend all your cash at one retailer; you'll get far more doing this so pick your friendly retailer and go shopping. Mark, Stu or Paul would all look after you (there are others I could also recommend but these are the chaps that post here and they all stock top notch pyro, though I am yet to sample Mark's tea...).

Good point- a retailer might do you a good deal if you are spending a fair chunk there. I'd suggest that you get in touch first, basically ask them what kind of deal they would be happy to do.

You have nothing to lose, of course, by asking first.

Oh- and I'd suggested e mail (or PM) rather than ring, then you are more likely to get the person you need to discuss with.

Thanks for your reply - I am under orders to have 20 minutes so 20 minutes it has to be. I managed to get that down from an hour originally !!

I will be going to just the one retailer - Fireworks Crazy most likely - I am just waiting for Mark to confirm what discount I can have. I should have £500 cash burning a hole in my pocket sometime this week

Totally agree. 10 minutes is a long time for most normal people to stay interested. If I were planning a £500 Display I'd put (at rrp) around £150 ~ £200 into the final 45 seconds or so. the remainder could be stretched out to around £30 a minute. This model works far better than trying to get 20 mins out of a 10 min budget and having to finish with a couple of cat 2 fountains!

You'll be surprised how few people will realise the display only lasted 10 mins - they will, however, remeber whether it was good or not.
