If you happen to be setting of some big flashpowder based items from the good old days this year what's the worst that the authorities
can do ? Fine ? Public flogging ? What ??

Good question. I know the law about buying fireworks and storing them, but as for actually using them , on private property, you should be OK.

unless you have an accident and dont have product and public liability! then you are screwed.

Well in my opinion i wouldnt worry about it, by the time some one has phoned the old bill and they arrive which i doubt they will on the 5th anyways, then what are they likely to find? A load of chared tubes and a bonfire, so how would they no what youve fired out of them? And seriously i really doubt the old bill will turn up, down at my dads his neighbours moan every year they have allready started this year infact asking if we could not have a party this year ha would you not celebrate christmas i asked and the reply was a very red face, Back to my story they phone them every year without fail and i am asof yet to actually see an officer stood at my front door, They have better things to do than moan at every family in ur area for having a bonfire party.

I've been questioned by the police regarding reports of gunfire. On Nov5th. Needless to say they didn't find a gun and went on their merry way aster establishing that we weren't armed maniacs. Thankfully they had some common sense unlike whoever called them!

Legally though, and I'm no expert, I don't think there's anything stopping you from letting off old stuff - this includes bangers. I think storage is the only issue here - not possession/use.

I would love to get hold of an old spec Proton Bomb, only ever had one.

Honestly pal if i could i would but her husband died this year and i dnt wana feel guilty for giving her a hard time over it, however i will ensure i get the biggest bangs to put a great big smile on her face ;-}, I wouldnt mind so much if she actually had a point as 1 in 2 houses have bonfire partys and she and her late husband didnt mither them only us. Ahh well aslong i only let off legal fireworks am in the clear

Pre MSER there would not have been a problem, assuming the fireworks were legit'. Nowadays things are different - without storage registration you can only store over 5kg nec for 21 days, under 5kg can be stored indefinitely.

Therefore, if you have say only one cake it would be pretty much impossible to prosecute for illegal storage, and as long it was fired within the legal time frame and on private land you should be all clear. If you had a few cakes (ie over 5kg net) then questions could well be asked about how long you've had the stuff (ie 21 days or more).

Mind you, once it's fired where's the evidence of the chemical make up.....very difficult to prove much

Are there large piles of this pyro lying around the store rooms of the various stockists across the country ?

Nice to be able to source this stuff if it is still around somewhere.

I wouldnt worry at all! As has been discussed here at length - your average punter on the street will have no idea that the regs have changed (as well as your average police officer!)

Unless you cause malicious damage with them (ie mis-use them) the only attention you will get on the 5th, will be envious glances from your neighbours (probably wondering where you bought your "good" fireworks from!) Your non-pyro loving neighbours, will just think - "here we go again - usual Nov 5th!"

Even if someone does complain, what will they say? "There are some very loud bangs again this bonfire night officer. I have had my decibel meter out & the last one was definitely over 120db!"

The police will just say "if it goes on past 11 o'clock, give us a ring back" (we may have stopped laughing by then!)

If you really have a passion for volume, why not consider a Cat 4 training course, and look into becoming a professional user- lots of info on other boards of the Pyro Society Forums.

Probably got given/sold off to pro companys. I know the company I fire for get given things all the time that have been seized by trading standards for whatever reasons.

As "sourcing" it is very likely to be illegal, depending on the specifics of the transaction.
