I'm not saying this is a bad thing or a good thing- just making this as a point of observation.

Going off the lack of noticable bursts in the sky and ambient bangs, this must be one of the most peaceful "silly seasons" for many year- or at least it seems this way round here.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing or a good thing- just making this as a point of observation.
Yep - very quiet around here too! A sign of things to come?
I have heard 2 or 3 small cakes (crackle bursts) - & as has been mentioned elsewhere, the lift was as loud, or louder, than the burst!

Hopefully it's a sign that people are saving their pyro for bonfire night (or the Saturdays close to it,) rather than a sign that public interest in fireworks is in decline.

Hopefully you're right, I reckon you probably are. Haven't heard much firework action around our way either (north-east Surrey), however, I'm pretty sure we'll start to hear more as bonfire night approaches.

Wish they would play, then I can test things too!
Yeah, I'm getting a bit worried that even bonfire night itself is going to be quiet- I really hope not, I have a nice few rockets to send up!

our biggest problem is its difficult nowadays to get kids involved in the build-up to bonfire night (unlike the old days) when we could go guying, or scrounge wood for bonfires etc, and of course buy/collect a few fireworks each week for our biscuit tins.
That is certainly true, although it's just a steady part of a long decline in the more traditional bonfire night habits.
It might make an interesting research project- the shift from the focus being on children and small scale backyard celebrations to the current "fill your car with fireworks and put on a big display" type of consumer.

Deadly silent outside around 8:30pm, it was a loud boom and heard screaming 3 streets away.
Hopefully it will pick up around here in the week leading up to November 5th, it usually does.

I'm sure I'm going to make up for the apparent silence come the Sat 7th Nov.

Saturday after November 5th should be OK, as most people will be doing their stuff then.

I assume you are specifically referring to Guy Fawkes Night David.
I see the hunour but although there are larger fireworks available to the public now more than say 20 years ago you can still purchase small garden fireworks if you wish. The choice is there which I believe is very important from a consumer perspective.
Large or small the principle is still there which is for families and communities all over the UK to celebrate a special event in our nations history. And long may it continue !
Oh and btw there are lots of children who enjoy big loud fireworks

The weather on November 5th round here has been absolutely perfect for the past 3 years so hopefully it will stay that way and we can have it on November 5th!
