I brought one of each of the selection boxes from lidl the weco ones and one each of the roecket packs the cakes was sold out but I thought I would try it that big selection box looks good that big box is £12.99 tescos big standard fireworks box is £40 get one free in Lidl there is a 2 for 12 offer so I got the small rocket pack and the small selection pack for £12 the whole lot came to £25 as I had a 5 pound off voucher all that in tescos would come to £65 big saving

Good choice there John C, if you get 5 mins try one of the "Volcano" fountains in the Cyber Pack, you won't be disappointed for such a small innocuous looking fountain :)

The lidl cake 25 Carat is very well made, took one apart today and looks surprisingly good quality! The cake itself is wrapped with two metal wires to keep it secured encase of a CATO and the tubes are very well stuck together, the actual insert contains 1g of bright flake aluminium flash so no BP burst here! All in all great cake and when fired produces a very pleasing large break for such a small insert. Plus you have the added bonus of a thick grey board stand at the bottom which I dont see on a lot of cakes.

Thanks for the technical rundown & appraisal. What does CATO mean?

There are a few definitions, but most people wouldn't argue with
Catastrophy At Take Off
I've heard it most commonly used to describe rockets which go bang rather than launch correctly.

Well, this year it's just supermarket fireworks for me! So far I have:

Velocity selection box x 2 (from Tesco)
Pyro Time x 1 (from Asda)
Sonic Blast x 1 (from Asda)
Terminal Velocity x 1 (from Aldi)

(sorry for poor quality of pic)

Hopefully, tomorrow I will be going to Lidl to pick up a few more fireworks...

Good selection there, couple of Lidl pieces should be the icing on the cake :)

Any chance of a pic inside the Velocity selection box?

Thanks for the pic :)

As I said on MSE(simillar to SI7), is there any chance that you could post a pic of the contents of the tesco box? :)

Thanks
Dan

Edit:

Beat me too it!

That selection does actually look quite good for two boxes for £20!

Thought I may as well go for it, so here is a pic of my stash for bonfire display 2010. Mostly all from Lidl ( wheels from firework warehouse bogof packs).

I know this wont be as good as my birthday display, but after witnessing a 25 carat on Saturday my hopes have been brought up Posted Image

Already posted this on MSE, but thought I'd get a second opinion.

Hmm, got around £60 to spend this year. Just wondering about suggestions on what to buy?

Looking at starting it off with a carpet of smoke from some smoke grenades, with some sparklers spread out in a long line burning after a short time. (don't include that in the budget)

For the main display, I'm looking at, so far, from lidl, a 25 carat, an ipanema, a firefighter, and a fire pack, but that's only £35.

Was considering getting a few £5 variety packs from tesco, and a £5 pack of rockets, to take it up to £25, for the free cake? Do you guys think this'd be a good bet?

Thanks loads Posted Image

Joe

P.S. I'm in Hemel Hempstead, if that helps.

Has anyone here ever done the "Crystal Shots" single shot tubes from Tesco, thinking about getting some but would like opinions before I do.

Thanks

Perhaps the Aldi £10 rocket pack (which I believe is supposed to be good) The barrage pack for £20 and also perhaps the Powder Keg mine (£3) from Asda.

I have never had the Tesco ones but I had the Sainsbury's single shot tubes last year which I'm pretty sure are more or less the same thing (both Standard) and they were OK, but nothing special really - the burst was only really marginally better than your average supermarket rocket. If you can find them cheap then I'd say give them a go but they're definitely not worth what the supermarkets are selling them for.
