I've loved fireworks since I was about 5 yrs old but now I'm 42 it has become a problem thanks to a rancid old git of a neighbour. He's one of the typical nosy, opinionated, unpleasant, right-wing old imperialists. Last Sat eve about 8.10 we went out to let off the real tiddlers from the selection boxes, just to get them out of the way and within a few minutes he's shining a bright torch in my face as i move around. When that did nothing he's out on his patio shouting how he doesn't like fireworks , how i shouldn't be setting them off as it's not Bonfire night, threatening to call the police, and when I said 'feel free, I'm within my rights he threatened to turn his hosepipe on me (he got to the point of dragging it from the shed and turning it on but didn't turn it on me). Bizarrely he then got his dog out into his garden which started barking even more than normal, but because I was aware that a misfire could hurt the thing and was shaking by rage at this point, I gave up and went indoors. That was just the tiddlers from the £5 selection packs and even though I don't like really noisy or big fireworks I have a fair number of medium/reasonably large ones so can't wait to see when we try to let them off. Subsequently I've recorded the matter with the police.
Anyone near Plymouth with normal neighbours and a spare bit of garden?
you whistle it, i'll hummer it

Jeese the neighbour from hell, you have my sympathy mate. How big is your garden and is it a quiet area? You are well within your rights and I would have a quiet word with him to make sure he doesn't ruin your night.

I probably would have lamped him one, he probably thinks your scared of him.

You having people round on Bonfire Night? He might be intimidated if you have a fair few round and keep out of your way.

No excuse to ruin peoples fun as long as you aren't breaking the law.

As long as you're adhering to safety distances he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Tell him to go ahead and call the police - you're doing nothing wrong and he will make a fool of himself - possibly get a verbal warning for wasting police time.

Ignoring the rest of the year- I'd love to have him for a neighbour on the 7th - with my stash and 40 odd
people for company I wonder if he'd anything to say for himself then

That being said, I do feel sorry for you but don't let him intimidate you, have a good time
and tell him to shove his hosepipe where the sun don't shine.

i had an old neighbour that was also like that. I advised him that the more he moaned at me, the louder the fireworks would get. Soon put a stop to it.

If he puts a hose over your fence, put a fountain over his. Lol.

Serioulsy get out a hose pipe, for safety reasons of course in case anything gets out of control. You never know when you may need to squirt something to cool it down.

You have far more patience than me, by the time he threatened me with a hose pipe I would be letting off the largest barrage I had, and subsequently continued till 1 minute to 11.
I would then feel compelled to spend as much money as I could afford buying the loudest most annoying fireworks I could.

Don't give in to such a grumpy old git, I'm sure when he was young he set off a few air b***s and bangers so why should you have to change your Guy Fawkes plans. Let off your fireworks safe in the knowledge that the police will have better things to deal with than fireworks being let off on the weekend after bonfire night. All they will say is "if it continues past 11pm then call us back". If you have to then drown out his moaning with the loudest barrage you’ve got.

Have a good one!
Doug

Simple....IF you have the safety distance.....Brothers Choice!!!!

A few days ago (wanting a quick "fix") I set a rocket off and got shouted at! This was at 8:30.....Later that night a "kid" (I say kid, he's about 25) a few houses down started firing candles at my house, had a word and that was it.

Guess what I'm doing..Brothers Choice....I'm within the law and they can do what they like!!! I'm not doing my display tomorrow but may just fire the Brothers Choice at 10:50

A couple of years ago I was letting my pyro off and coming toward the end of my display when unbeknown to me,
some woman from down about 5 houses down & across (she's only moved in a few months before)walked through my
back gate and started moaning at my missus and assembled guests about the noise - her hubby was trying to
sleep as he was on nightwork...It was 8:40pm on the 4th November, what did she expect!

Anyway, after being met with laughter from the crowd she stormed back out the gate just as I let off a
couple of King Rockets    I bet to this day she thought I did that on purpose!

I live in a cul de sac of 35 house, we're all surrounded by huge farmer's fields on all sides but I've
still knocked on everyone's door to let them know about my party on the 7th. Strangely I forgot to knock
at just one house - wonder who that was ;)

Anyway - as we've all said - stuff it up him..go enjoy yourself!

Last year my next door neighbours got really annoyed with us because it was our last "big cake" firework of the night and they came complaining it was too loud and they argued that they were gunna call the police because the debris of fireworks were all over there driveway and fallin on top of there cars... we couldnt help that... but we offered to clean it up afterwards... but we really dont get on with them next door... people shouldnt spoil others having fun and thats what they did... ok i would understand if it was after hours letting off fireworks but this was around 8pm... people like that should get a life... this year we had to put a note thru there door to let them know which day we having fireworks on... what is the country coming to!! NEIGHBOURS FROM HELL!!
