Thankfully the weak, disappointing "crisp bag pop" shite that some brands were doing in 2007-2008 seems to have been improved upon a great deal.
Even with rockets, some were OK, if it's accepted that 1.4G rockets are now garden fireworks, and people are expecting a small burst. Some did have a bit of a bang, nothing thunderous, but a bang at least.

I'm pleased to say that there was definatly an increase in quality of 1.4G fireworks this year. What I saw from Brothers, Royal Party and Bright Star , all made this year (I assume) was loud enough, and perfectly acceptable- nice breaks and mixed effects.

Totally agree David.
I had some of the smaller kids go inside this year as it was too noisy - can it ever be too noisy lol ?
Had nothing but positive remarks from adults and kids from a totally 1.4g display.

I must add though that I fired a few 2009 1.4G in amongst the majority of 1.3G I had this year and there was a marked difference in quality and power.
I cant really get my head round why people would want to settle for second best especially when there isnt that much of a difference in price.
I do understand of course that displays with young children in attendance would perhaps want to fire something a bit less powerfull. But then again I see lots of families with young children attending professional CAT 4 displays which are normally mega loud. hmmm strange
I feel that the whole 1.4G thing was a step towards restricting the availability of "proper" loud / quality fireworks to the consumer / public.
I fully support the current steps put in place by the authorities to stop the irresponsible use of fireworks but I would not like to see a further tightening up of regs / law. The current restrictions seem to be working - it appears that the incident stats are well down on previous years and fingers crossed this will continue to have a positive impact on the minority of mindless twats that are intent on spoiling our tradition.
I am sure there will be a few different views on this.
Glad everyone seems to have had a great time this year.

I think the root of it is more about transportation and storage, rather than to specifically limit the volume of the firework.

Anyone fired 'Starring' (Brothers) 16 shot...I thought it was CAT3 but it's CAT2...Great cake IMO
I fired this and it was very loud for a garden firework. The shots do not rise that high because of the restrictions that apply to garden fireworks but the noise is way into cat 3 category!

Yeah - like making it more difficult to transport and store 1.3G classified fireworks and hence my point - making it harder for the consumer to get their hands on the "good stuff". However thank goodness some companies are getting around this and choice still prevails despite our nanny state efforts.

Indeed- lets just hope nothing changes that will lead to further restrictions.

its such a shame about the firework put through the letterbox, the most blame will probably go to the firework its self unfortunatly.
however far more killings are done with petrol, but you can purchase most amounts freely, and the restriction on age is low.
cigaretts are another heavy duty killer but as long as your age is right you can light the fuse.
the 1.4 this year i thought were quite nice, obviously the volume is toned but colour and effects are strong.
not much for my first post
hi guys.

Also the size of the bursts I found was better in many 1.4G fireworks this year.

I hope not also though I am sure they will limit us more in time to come. There was a news report the other day about a family that got killed because some pricks put a firework through their letter box which incidentally burnt their house down. Now people will be blaming fireworks for this when in actual fact it is our mindless prick head communities of noobs that are at blame for this, the firework was just functioning as it was meant to.
Like with guns. When something is "magic" to "ordinary people", they will always blame the tool and not the one who misused it. I'm still waiting to hear people blaming cars for driving drunk or without a license or a knife for stabbing. Most people are idiots, alas.

There was some decent stuff going off round here this year but as far as I can tell there was no 'old school' stuff except ours
yeah- the "ambient noise" certainly was a lot lower this year.
