Does anyone know how much contact you would need with copper oxide for it to be fatal?

I am just curios as to how much copper oxide exposure you would need or how much you will need to ingest for it to be fatal or cause any temporary or long term damage or problems. I also heard that copper fumes are not very pleasant to breath in as they alone can cause symptoms which are not nice at all.

Your starting point, as with most chems is the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS):

http://msds.chem.ox....pric_oxide.html

In this case, we have LD50 ORL-RAT LD50 470 mg kg-1.

Multiplying this up to a giant 12 stone (76.2kg) rat suggests 35.8g would kill half of them. Rats are hardy buggers so a 12 stone man might be more susceptible.

I'm sure the fumes are best avoided as well...

Pyrotechnist,....I don`t think you have too much to worry about (providing you have regularly been wearing a suitable mask and other PPE), but take a look at this particular MSDS for your own peace of mind http://www.espimetals.com/msds's/copperoxidecuo.pdf

If your still concerned, just go to see your doctor

Buy a new respirator.

It's your money or your life (and its longevity).

A teaspoon-full in the morning cup of tea will do the job after a few weeks.... ;)
