Did you know that the government is now using anti-terrorist legislation to arrest people who take innocent photos in public places! A relative of mine was stopped and on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday, there was a piece about their staff photographer being stopped from snapping a sunset over St Pauls'!

This has just gone too far - we are now living in a totalitarian state.

I've set up a petition at 'Number 10'. As a million of us marched against war and were ignored, I can't see it making any difference, but you have to try...

Sign up if you value your freedom and let all you friends know:

Phil

Have tried signing the petition, but no luck, I recieved the email from No 10`s website, but there is no live link to finally sign the petition, I ve even tried pasting to no effect.

Any suggestions?

Regarding the above topic, there was a guy on LBC radio yesterday morning who works as a model maker for Lego,....he too was stopped & questioned by a couple of security people for taking photos of the houses of parliament,.... even though the photos he took were for reference for his job (i.e measurements & proportion for scale etc),...and I thought policing was by the consent of the people for the people!

Totalitarian is good description,....so is Authoritarianism.

I think the only democratic way to get rid of these publicity seeking twatish politians, is by not voting for any of the 3 major parties at election time,...just vote for any independant that takes your fancy (or not as the case may be),...and let a coalition take its natural course of events.

yer but thats how the bnp got a seat. my brother used to be a met police officer, so i understand exactly what your complaining about, he used to bitch about it to. its modern life, same thing as dad taking pics of his kids at a swimming pool will get accused of being a pedo. modern culture seem to be, its easier to cure the symptoms that try and cure the disease.

Thanks for trying - maybe try again another time. It does work as quite a few have signed already.

Worth saying that these things don't even get looked at unless there are hundreds of thousands of signatures - so everyone, please 'spider' it to all your friends.

The BNP are only one very small dubious party of white supremists with dodgy ideology who have no structure for government (even if some of there policies point in the right direction),... if you spread or gave your vote to other independants, then you would have a parliament of balanced opinion which would serve the people without the party politics or cash & honours issues getting in the way,..we may live with some aspects of modern life that we dont like, but we don`t have to accept all of it,..there are alternative ways forward to better the masses in this country,..you just need a common sense and balanced approach,.. with someone to create a bill of rights and a internet voting system for policy making & voting by the people for the people (and I include everyone rich or poor, black or white, religous or not, educated or not).

Would we be any worse off if most of the current lot of MP`s lost there seats at the next election?,..short term maybe, but I doubt it in the medium or long term.

If doctors or scientists only attempted to treat the symptoms and not the cause, then diseases would increase & mutate,... so I don`t think we should ever take the easier option if we don`t attempt to cure the problems once and for all.

The major problem we have in this country is one of Apathy not bitching.

Rant over!

Well, I take photos of pretty ladies in public places... not sure if the photos could be classed as innocent though!

i had a long convo with a friend of mine about weather a version of communism done right could ever work.
if we could a local area election where anyone could enter, say each council area. then a further election from each of these area to elect a country Representative and then the is a committee with no head, just made up of all the counties.

every major decision being taken back to each local area. no one area having more voting power than any other. this would mean the rep from the richest parts has no more power than those from the poorest. this would be unpaid and only done by those of want to do it to help, like the TA just your wages made up for lost time.

if the rep is making decisions out of line with his areas liking he can be impeached at any time via a vote.

obviously this is over simplified and in the real world probably wouldn't work. but the idea that money not going to money and the richest having no more power than the poorest, does hold a certain appeal.

Another interesting angle on the photo-terrorism..... Thursday mid-morning news on Radio One they mentioned that some people had been stopped and cautioned for taking pictures of Christmas lights and that they would be doing a full story on lunchtime Newsbeat. The "full story" was pulled, I have yet to recieve and answer as to why, but fear the worst. When people innocently taking pictures of Christmas decorations are apprehended and forced to delete pictures there is something seriously wrong with the authority we live under. Methinks actions like this will be counter productive and get more backs up than terrorists that they discourage.
BTW Phil, how do you start up one of these petitions??? I can think of a few things I'd like to raise some heat on.

On a serious note, we do need to be cautious about media-hysteria, and things getting blown out of proportion.

Hi Trev,

To start a petition, you just have to go to the number 10 website and it steps you though. You have to make sure there is nothing similar already and it has to be something the government could do something about - not just a rant! I found it pretty straightfoward.

Your christmas lights story is typical. This is control for control's sake. Those who know me will understand that I would do nasty things to terrorists, but this sort of thing is giving them just what they want. Our freedom is being restricted, not theirs. I'd almost forgive the government if it could possibly do the slightest good, but the layout of public buildings etc is a matter of public record.

If a terrorist wanted to take such pictures, I'm sure he could rig a conceiled camera - I certainly could. If you want to see the disposition of guards, security cameras etc, you only have to look - are they going to stop us looking next?

Spread the word...
