Hey.
At the moment my black powder isn't that good because of the charcoal i use. And when trying to think of something i could use to turn into charcoal i though of jenga blocks. I read on the internet that they are meant to be made from Alder wood which i understand to be good for making black powder. So I was wondering if any one has tried this befor and if so what were the results like.

It could work, but why not use a slightly less expensive source of wood? There may also be unwanted impurities if the wood is treated.
What charcoal/process are you currently using? Even relatively poor commercial charcoal will produce useable BP if ball-milled properly...

probably just sealed/varnished, a quick going over with a power sander should do the trick, they look real cheap on the ebay! 1 bid (50p) and a £1 postage.
the garden jenga looks interesting i dont think its hardwood, but just £20's worth of softwood cut up in to blocks for £54! ching ching

If you are fairly new to this hobby then you would probably be better of to buy your charcoal so you have some consistancy in your powder,(pine and willow pretty easy to get hold of).If you have your heart set on alder, you would be far better of to take a stroll in the countryside and collect some for your self.
