I picked up a 'Royal Party Pyro System' today for a tenner from my local specialist shop which turns out to be a rebranded BrightSpark system. Does anyone have any experience of using one of these? I really wanted to use one to launch 3 finale cakes (probably Magneto, then Dark Thunder, then Screaming Spiders) followed by 2 Absolute Panther rockets, but looking at the system I can't see how you could use it to fire a Panther rocket - aren't they too high off the ground for the E-Fuse to reach? I haven't assembled the Panther rockets yet, nor have I unravelled any of the E-Fuses but it just seems as though they won't reach.

Also, is it easy to get hold of replacement E-fuses?

i don't have any experience of using your system but as for the e-match reaching question. Just get some bell wire and extend the e-match. Then it'll reach anywhere or everywhere :)

You would have to splice into the wire as it is a continuous run from the connector to igniter. Not sure if this would effect the resistance too much though.

I've got one these myself they are very very good, if you completely unravel all the fuses then the from fuse 1 to 5 the distance would be approx 6 ft. Hopefully it should do the trick. As far as the replacment fuses they are readyly available in many places including Maplins.

I have a bright spark unit i got given for free from the local sesonal fireworks shop for my step son but it doesnt work i found at all. The wire burns but not visco igntion

I'm gonna go have a look at it now and see why it's not working. Might be the cheap batterys that come with it and need some proper decent things.

It's ment to do 5 items per clip

It looks similar to the launch kontrol I've got and thats mint. After bonfire night look on ebay and all the suppliers sell their e-clips off cheap. I got 5 packs of 3 ( 15 fires ) for the price of 2 last year.

OK just for you Dr Thrust here are a few clips of some tests I did with Launch Kontrol. The clip with unsecured visco shows how easy innocent experiments could have a different outcome. Fortunatley no live material was present in the test area so no harm done. I did need to change my trousers though :o

yeah visco, has a mind of its own, have you done any tests to determine if thin guage nickchrome wire will fire with this system, as im a cheap skate ;)

I've got some thin nichrome wire but it might not be thin enough! It might be 36swg from memory I'll have to take a look. I did try at the time but no joy. Mind you the length used in the eclip is so short I dont know how it could be replicated. Where there is a will there is a way though I'm sure. The clips are a bit pricey @ £9.99 for 15 shots 66p each. I managed to get three packs (45 shots) for £19.99 making 44p each. Still way too expensive!

I tested it out tonight on five small fireworks but for some reason the second one did not ignite - all the others did, though. Has anyone else ever experienced a similar issue? Could it be a problem with the kit or might it just be that the fuse failed to ignite, even though the device itself was functioning?

Does anyone know whether the manufacturers are still around? Their website is allegedly www.brightspark.co.uk but it doesn't seem to exist. I'll keep an eye on ebay for refill packs!

A system I used to use for making e-match (literally!) was to bridge the end of a piece of flex with maybe 1/4 inch of fine copper wire (38 swg at a guess) and epoxy it to a match head.

I used a car battery to fire these, so not sure if it would work with a lower current system. They were very reliable, & because of the match, could set fire to pretty much any fuse. Quick & cheap to make as well once you get a production line going. Also no hard to find parts...

You can make modern type ematches too - there is a thread about it somewhere. These are quite a bit harder to get right & involve a rather sensitive pyrogen.

nice one Phill, i thought about doing that, but thought they might me a little sensitive, wonder if safety matches would work?
as for a car battery ,been there!, then tried photo flash units, then 12V sealed alarm batteries, then 12v car battery charger, now a 18v cordless drill battery, which really pops the thickest nick chrome i have!.
my simple ematch consists of basically passing a thin needle threaded with nick chrome wire though visco at a 45 degree angle, so the wire is in contact with the bp powder core about 5mm , take off needle attach to firing wires, bit of tape, simples!
