I recently stumble across somone who had wat appear to be pre new regulation black cat bangers, original oldish looking packs of 10 with bs number's. are these legal to own, sell, use ? they appear to be and certainly sound flash based.

Hi Steve,

I'm sure we will have a more erudite opinion soon, but I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to own them. How they came to be stored all that time is possibly a bit of a grey area, that probably covers 'collections too'. hmmm...

There was a recent thread on this.

I think it was illegal to sell to anyone not professional as it is classified as cat4.

Owning and using on private land i would have thought would be ok, although as mentioned later there may be some question of how long you stored them and possible transport restrictions., are they UN marked for transport ?

I may be wrong but if it is a pre-ban banger isn't it a collectors item and therefore OK?
I'm Irish and not familiar with UK law but I think that is right? :/

The Gigantic Crab!!! says, if a little late, that bangers have been banned since the end of 1997 along with mini rockets (a definition of 12" or less springs to mind, but don't quote The Gigantic Crab!!! unless you foolishly welcome his wrath) and "fireworks of an erratic flight".

There does seem to be, at the moment, a lot of talk (on facebook) of bangers being traded as "nostalgia" items. What concerns me is that whilst some may well be genuine British bangers, traded between bona fide collectors, many are not, and it's unfortunate, as it's hurting the whole collectors market's reputation.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

I've messaged you! There is a small/informal collectors facebook group. There used to be a bigger one, but that closed a while ago.

Yes, but the discussion was about what might be legit collectors items bangers, not the white van man stuff- with that, its a simply black and white issue. ;)
