I had a thoroughly enjoyable day at the AGM yesterday, albeit unfortunately missing some of the talks and presentations while we worked on prepping the display in that fabulous weather, however it was a real pleasure to put faces to names and generally get to know who is behind these form names!

And to top it off, quite an impressive display albeit 'off the cuff' after a minor firing system issue, still everybody saw some bloody good fireworks! Very impressed the quality of those shellscape titanium salutes!

Well done to those who work hard to pull these kind of events off they are integral to the pyro community. Especially (from where I was working) Paul and Phil!

Looking forward to next year now

Yes, somehow it all came together on the day brilliantly - something for everyone I thought. Thank you to all those who contributed their time and effort (and donations) and to those who turned up on the day.

Playing back some clips of the display the crowd were just amazed. Best of both worlds I thought - some nice e-fired cake sequences and the drama and fun of a hand fired finale. Great stuff!

Roll on 2012 :-)

No! We need some time to recover :)

Hats off to Maxim - he's got more b@lls than I have. Good also to see there are still people as 'individual' as Icarus :)
Thanks to everyone involved in making it happen.

Glad you all enjoyed the AGM. A lot of work and planning went into it. A special thanks to all the committee members who made it happen, and equally to members old and new who travelled far and wide to join us for the day. A special thanks is also due to Paul and Jimmy of Epic Fireworks and Danny (exat808) for his very informative talk. I would encourage all of you, if you only take one thing away from the AGM, is to think about the phrase we discussed: "Competence".

Look to develop your own competence and make the most of new opportunities to continue your own professional development. It can only be a good thing if the society encourages and sees our members committing themselves to progressing their skills and approach to working with energetic materials. Giving credibility to yourselves, and in turn the UKPS is crucial.

Thanks all, I look forward to the next one!

Richard

Back in the smoke!

Glad you all enjoyed it.

Thanks to all to who worked so hard & particularly to Joseph, whose diplomatic skills with the venue probably saved us from a last minute disastrous cancellation.

To those who did not make the journey, you missed a great day, and one whose presentations and discussions in and out of the conference room will very much inform how the society conducts the next year.

I would reiterate Richard's comment that next year is election year & if you think you can move the society forward, you should consider standing for office next time.

Pity about the technical failure, but still a spectacular show and quick thinking from the firers!

Next time, we will almost certainly do the fireworks a different way, as now the show has grown in size, too many people are not able to be in the conference room & contribute to the business of the day.

All in all, a great success I think.

phill there is no business of the day, the day is to enjoy yourself and give people the choice. from what i heard the talks were really good and people enjoyed them self but for the people outside they really had a great time to being hands on and chatting with people they haven't seen since the last AGM. Me and phil could have done the setup on our own (and at one point we asked if anyone wanted to go into the agm please do so)

overall i think the AGM was a great success people that wanted to listen to talks enjoyed them self and the people that wanted more hands on enjoyed them self. so well done to all the staff of the UKPS, All the people that took the time to give talks and the people that helped outside with me and phil setting up the display. even with the technical hiccup with the firing hardware the team pulled together and did a great job so well done.

looking forward to the next meet up.

One of the reasons you should still always don PPE when firing electrically. Not the first time I have been in the deep end and had to dive in and hit fuses with a blow lamp.

Think I enjoyed it as much as Phil did........... :P

phill there is no business of the day,

Well we will probably have to agree to differ on this one...

AGM Annual General Meeting. This is our yearly chance (and legal obligation) to meet and discuss the business of the society. We all love fireworks, that's why we do this, but the display is a nice ending to the day, which we have traditionally done, not a required part of the event.

The fact that it kept the company secretary from attending the meeting is to say the least unfortunate.

We intend to make sure that there are more opportunities for members to get involved, hands on, with displays, but I fear that the display is now starting to take over from the real purpose of the day.

Richard, Myself & Gareth spent some time yesterday discussing how this might be better managed & we would welcome any constructive input from the membership.

Anyway, lets not let this difference of opinion get in the way of celebrating what was a great day.
