Well it seems many people have trouble making reliable/good BP so I thought I should use the best ingredients I can make/get :)

the charcoal is everything, everything else can be impure, but the charcoal affects it the most.

We're down to just one slot left in the potassium perchlorate consortium. Sure, it's expensive compared to US prices, or making it yourself, but it's not that expensive, and it's totally hassle-free.

If anyone's interested jump on it now as we're all eager (read: impatient) to start playing with colours...

PM for details or ask in thread, but PM will get faster response.

Where, should i start looking to find some Sodium Benzoate... I have no idea of its uses. Google resolved it as a food additive, but what kind of store sells food additives?
my friend: What's that?

me: It's a fuse.

my friend: Oh.

Not sure where it's sold other than pyrotechnic suppliers. It's exportable, so it is available from Skylighter, and I am sure, other suppliers online.

I purchased some Sodium Benzoate from an online cooking supplier in Melbourne. There are *many* other places that sell it. It had a small quantity of binder in it to assist its granulation, but it did not affect its performance in whistle much compared to some I ordered from skylighter.

Personally I prefer Salicylate whistles which are more powerful, especially for rockets, but you can't make howlers without Benzoate.

Yeah Im looking forward to making some whislte mix, and also some benzolift, which is why i want the benzoate specifically.

If its exportable thats cool, i will grab some from Skylighter with some tubes/shells next time i order. Cheers

Hey Maximusg, I hapened to buy a little more Sodium benzoate than I needed (5kg). If you wanted I could send a kilo or so across the Tasman ( I live in NZ). It cost about $5 a kilo, but the exact figure I would need to look up.

Well, the perc buy is now full. I'm currently waiting for a revised quote from the supplier, and the last couple of addresses to trickle in, then I'll get back to people with shipping estimates.

Oh, and Seymour, I'd also be interested buying a in a kilo or two of that sodium benzoate (providing you can spare it, of course). Where'd you get it from originally?

Ooh, just called the food additive supplier where I got my dextrin, and sodium benzoate is $106.25 per bag. Which is $4.25/kg. Woo.

Only, I doubt I'd ever use that much in my entire lifetime... :(
