Hello

Ive made FLASH POWDER before a couple of times and know how sensitive it can be with friction etc. But what i want to know about is that if i make the flash powder then insert the powder into banger tubes for bonfire night will this still be stable? I know your not supposed to move flsah powder around to much and friction can cause it to blow. how would it react when the explosives are stored in my bag?

Thank You

If you are using 70/30 perc / ali it will be fine as long as the tubes are sealed up well. I have made no end of these over the last few months, great fun, although I tried lots of different sizes and found that .3 of a gram in a spolette tube (6mm ID) is the best, nice and loud but doesn't damage anything. If you plug it well enough you can get 1 gram of BP to go with quite a nice boom!

When the flash is inside tubes it would actually be safer, as it's protected from friction and static discharge to a certain extent: obviously though you need to be careful when loading and capping the tubes. On the subject of static discharge, DO make sure you don't use any plastic tools that might develop a charge.
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....

If flash must be used, binary mixing is the safest way.

I use the paper mixing together method! im used to making it then putting it straight into a tube and lighting but for bonfire night i will be needing them in my bag! just don't want them to go off ? hows the best way to make sure they dont do this?

In all fairness and without wanting to sound like a " Do Gooder" but its basic knowledge you dont carry fireworks in your pocket ! and even more so with home made articles. I make a few 5 grm bangers for bonfire night in small plastic testing tubes with screw on lids, ive made maybe 100 of these over the years but everytime i screw a lid on i sweat.

As trev has said, once contained in a tube there is no reason for them to self combust, the only way is if you light the fuse!Maybe if you are so unsure about the process it might be better to give it a miss.

Diy flash devices are the easiest way for you to get hurt and into trouble. A single gram of flash will injure a hand beyond reuse three or four grams may spread minced hand over a wide area. If you can't do it competently then you can't do it safely whatever the effect so please DON'T do it.

Keep mannequins and watermelons away from fireworks..they always get hurt..

I agree with Arthur on this one.
why not try perfecting some real nice BP and make some old school bangers if you really need them , you can get a real nice thump from black powder bangers and it wont attract the unwanted attention that a flash maroon will .
Stay safe and leave the flash alone.

If it's just a loud bang you're after, it can be done with granulated BP providing there is enough confinement.

For the loudest effect, treat it like a shell with pasting / spiking etc ...

In the past I have made small BP 'bangers' that were deafening !

I find whistle mix is the way to go for some deafening cracks and booms.

That may be true for ground salutes, but if you want to make proper aerial reports safely, it really must be premixed.
