Agree with you completely Martyn.

We are a very specialist organisation. I would love there to be a lot more of us, but our core activities are not for most people...

I have tried to promote the display itself as a semi-public event, which may make a little money for charity, as it seems a shame that only members see it.

However, I would caution anyone against blanket invites and publicty without involving the elected committee in the process...

I appreciate that I am very new member to this already well established forum so please take the following as my own humble opinion. This will be my first time at a ukps event and was initially quite excited about the thought of a get together with like minded people. Again as martyn says above I am not to sure about the attendance of the general public if this going to hinder what members can do, ie workshops and demonstrations like PyroPDC has offered. I would have liked to maybe sponsored something different in the display but not really possible now. I have already pledged £100 towards show for something 'nice' but would of liked something different as I have already been involved in 'one or two' pyromusicals. I hope one day we can have a members only get together. Looking forward to meeting you all. B.

Largely as Martyn said (post 44 )

The AGM is a small but formal event only of much interest to members! The associated talks are rather deep and nerdy and probably not suited to the public.

The show may be good enough to be a spectacle in the town but I suspect that "Town Crier" et al would be a total waste the show isn't going to beat the Olympic opening or the Thames NYE show, so let them come but don't push the issue.

Ok, some good points being made here, and I apologise to the committee if I have jumped the gun in my enthusiasm to promote us without there consent, and in ways that some of us are at odds with, but it has to be said that are we not a little naive in holding our AGM and then announcing on the forum to the public that entry is free to everyone? or do we still want to stay insular as a group?

Surely we need to think about forming a promotional strategy before the AGM is formally announced some weeks/months in advance to maximise local publicity for the masses to attend the firework show only, and then perhaps contact like minded discerning groups to attend the day events/talks by invitation only in the area we hold future AGM`s? - we could perhaps do this by asking them the print off a numbered invitation from our website which will have a code number on it identifying who we have promoted this to = this will tell us where our advertising is working when they print-off & hand-in this piece of paper when attend our AGM talks/day events.

Nice one, I ve spread the word to Crewkernes Museum & the local Astronomical Society, and posted a final running order details of our event at the Crewkerne Towns website again :)

.

Is there any chance you could put up a few mini notices or cards in newsagent windows telling peeps about our event?

Do you have a local radio station in Crewkerne?

A bit nearer the time i am going to contact our local paper,The crewkerne advertiser and see if i can get a piece in there and also i will contact our larger paper ,The western gazzette which is for the local towns and villages and get a piece in there which to let people know that there will be a free show on that eve which may prove popular.

I am editing this after reading the last few post,i was only going to publicise the display and not try to get members of the public coming to the agm as i agree this could spoil the event.

If the committee would prefer that i did not publicise the eve display then no probs, i will wait and see what is said.

The AGM is a once a year opportunity to get together with like minded people and discuss 'things' you can't with other friends etc.
The display is simply a letting off steam finale to the day. If this becomes a big organising and crowd control task then it definitely detracts from the whole point.
And definitely no public at the AGM, a few interested possible new members but an open door would mean we could not openly discuss what we do etc.

As we are a limited company, I believe it's a legal requirement that the public can attend the 'open' part of the meeting. However, no one (to my knowledge) has ever chosen to do so!!

I know it is a bit early but i thought i would start a list for those that fancy a get together after the Agm display for some food and a beer or five,

The pubs in town which do food tend to stop at nine pm and also if they had a sudden influx of a large group at 8.45 they might struggle! But we do have a good indian which also does english food so might be a better bet,so if you fancy it add your name to the list and when we have everybody who fancys it, i can book a table for maybe 9 to 9.30,

Edit,

I should have said add your name to this list :D

4:30pm - 4:50pm Chris Clarke Pro's and Cons of different firing systems

Just to expand on this:

System protocol types and how they affect the design/operation of a system

Autonomous vs Non-autonomous

H&S of different styles of systems

There is a lot to talk about around this subject so i'll have to rush through it a bit, but happy to chat to people after ;-)
