Ethyl Acetate isn't totally miscible with water, but if you don't mix enough you could be confused. About 8% by mass dissolves in water. Amyl Acetate smells strongly of bananas.
It really presents a peculiar set of properties. I really can't think of a single thing that will dissolve parlon but not polystyrene. The smell, miscibility with water, and the solvation of parlon made me think of Tetrahydrofuran. This will dissolve PVC though.
