At the AGM I suggested running a Fusing Workshop, so we could all learn and share different fusing techniques.

i.e. How to join different fuses together in a reliable manner to achieve efficient flame transfer, so all fuses ignite and the required end effect is achieved, be it a simple instantaneous quick match train, transitions between different fuses or more complex assemblies requiring various delay fusing techniques.

We've set the date as Saturday 10th August 2013 and the venue will be my place in Newbury, Berkshire.

The idea for the event is for everyone attending to bring fusing materials with them and for everyone to share the different fusing techniques they use, so everyone benefits by increasing their knowledge of fusing - It will not just be me teaching you what I do, I want everyone to feed in techniques.

There will be lots of practical fusing and testing going on all through the day - plenty of room outside for this.

If the weather is good, we can do everything outside, but if it is damp then we can use my large workshop to do the fusing, before taking it outside to test.

The plan is to have a BBQ on the Saturday evening with the possibility of a few fireworks to finish off the evening.

There are several hotels in the area for those who want to stay over, the closest is Donnington Spa Hotel, but that's quite expensive:

A cheaper option is the Newbury North Hilton:

Or the basic Travelodge:

For those on a really tight budget, there are a couple of sofas and plenty of floor space if you want to bring a sleeping bag.

If anyone is staying over the Friday night, we could meet up for a drink or two at the local pub - The Castle at Donnington.

If you would like to attend the fusing workshop on 10th August, please PM me and I'll send out address and contact details to everyone nearer the time.

Carl,

A selection of different types of fuse would be good.

I've got a reasonable collection in my store, but my stocks are getting low, hence asking people to bring their own, so the supplies are bolstered for the day.

I've had PM's from four or five people so far, but it would be useful to have a list on the forum of whose planning to attend, so please cut and paste the list and add your name (those who've already PM'd me, please also add your name on here):

Not a great deal but I have sent with Dan a few bits and bobs, couple of meters of chinese time fuse, about 20m of Lidu Black match, big bundle of thin match, bundle of visco, lengths of 5mm red visco (1m lengths) and a shed load of QM tails.

Would anyone attending object to a TV crew being their to film us?

I've been approached by a production company that does a series where the presenter goes on one day work experience sessions in different jobs.

My plan is to let them learn the basics of fusing with us on 10th August and then crew on a display at a later date.

Let me know if this would cause anyone a problem.

Steve
