Good Morning All!

I am having trouble sourcing a supplier in the South East, Kent and Sussex area, for blackpowder. I am involved in several re-enactment societies providing special effects and looking for somewhere to buy powder in bulk, perhaps 10kg loose at a time.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Some of my local gun shops either don't supply it or charge an absolute fortune for just half a kilo.

Thanks

The Firing Box aka Andy the Bomb

All of the following are in Kent or Sussex (according to the Fireworks directory), and involved in trade or stage effects so good places to ask:

A chat with your ELO will confirm what storage you need but IMO bulk BP would need a different store from 500g bottles in the appropriate wooden box.

While it may be expensive, buying BP containing articles pyrotechnic that contain BP can get you the effect of BP off COER and at 1.4 for transport.

That's odd.

Ribbands list it at £9/Kg in 15Kg cases trade.

The reason I wondered if it was a typo is because the essex list I have from 2011 has it at £15/Kg.

I can't see how it can be sold for six quid given the expense of transporting and storing it?

Peter Starley has it from £34/Kg upwards, granted posher stuff.

Spoke to Essex yesterday and they sell it at £15+VAT per 500g tub, is this expensive? Seems so to me.

I have 500g empty tubs, just need someone to refill the tubs at a reasonable cost.

I will try the others on the list today.

Oops, apologies, my typo there.

The price I gave for essex in 2011 should have been per 500g not per Kilo, so same price as a couple of years ago.

Starley price is per Kilo, so same ball park.

Some BP shooters and re enactors make it themselves apparently - though that is illegal.

Ribbans don't do black powder any more.

Dealt with SkyHigh FX in the past but they can be a bit hit and miss, they didn't even bother answering my last requests in 2012 by both email and telephone. Not reliable.

Awaiting replies from Phoenix and TPL Pyro, yet to contact Wells.

One final move might be HFM for pre-made effects.
