So I have got one question: It?s quite hard to obtain tubes with imperial measured sizes here. As it is to obtain a 6,4mm dowel.

So, my question is the following: Would using a 6 or 7mm tube be nearly equivalent or does it destroy the measurement so it is not comparable to yours?!

5 or 6 mm should be close enough.

Yeah, I use metric almost exclusively too, but here both metric and imperial tools and materials are available. I also have a lot of US sourced tubes and tooling which are all imperial, most texts use imperial measurements too so I tend to use and talk in them for pyro.

I readsome time back about Charchoal made from Paper. Has any one else tried this as I have seen a video clip of it and it was fast.

I've not tried it but do know something about paper manufacturing.

It would depend what paper was used, it's made from a number of different materials depending on intended use. Textiles, pines, hemp, mixed waste bark, mixed waste papers, straw are all used, basically any sufficiently fibrous material that is cheap and works in the process.

Many papers are coated with chalk, Titanium dioxide, varnishes, inks etc. the residue from which probably slows BP.

A fine lightly coated hemp paper would probably work well, like those used in Rizla (v. v. expensive) or in old Bibles (expensive and blasphemous! :o ).

Brown "Kraft" paper for parcels might work OK and has little or no coating, this is also the tough outer material on good quality corrugated cases.

bibles can be bought cheaply from oxfam or other 2nd hand shops, or book sales.

alternatively, you get them as freebies in many hotels.

You don't have to nick bibles from hotels  you can buy hemp paper from some of the many hemp shops on the web. Interesting to note that the Japanese make their hemp charcoal from hemp rope, and it does seem to burn considerably faster than wood charcoal, in spite of having quite a high ash content. ;)

No, of course I'm not Fishy - sorry you took it that way. But these forums are read by quite a lot of non BPS members, I didn't want someone out there to think of lifting a Bible or two. And if hotels are giving the things away, I don't think they're being straight, if they don't want them in their rooms, they shouldn't accept them from the Gideons or whoever supplies them.

ANYWAY, here's another idea for an interesting source of charcoal. Thinking of which types of paper might be low in mineral fillers and lignin and came up with..........

LOO PAPER

cheap and plentiful, it would be interesting to see how well it works.
Let the jokes begin!

This stuff doesn?t work well. Its pure cellulose, bleched a few times and then everything is removed that would make the stuff good for charcoal purposes...

No way guy, tried that!

Willow isn't actually that great, in ladykate's test it shows that pine is faster and with my own comparisons alder is much faster than pine
