Another idea i have thought about for a gathering is to meet up at a venue to be decided to build dummy/cutaway fireworks.
Any one in ?

Sounds good, do you have a workshop in mind?
Posted 07 April 2014 - 10:02 PM
Several.
Obviously the RGPM is a candidate. Or if it's only a couple of takers my place or a workshop i have use of in Hayes Middlesex.
Somewhere more central would be ideal, i know but that's wat i have so far.
Maybe a bank holiday would be good.

Definately in. I was recently thinking that I'd like to make up some dummys to use as part of potential presentation/talks.

Cool.
I've never actually done this myself so we are gonna need a few tips or maybe some instruction.
Now who's good at making inert and cutaway fireworks ?!?!?

lol - that might be me... happy to help - not a skill I thought anyone would ever want!
Always happy to host in Dorset, but that may be too far.

Now then peeps.
The situation is getting a little urgent now.
We need to put some exhibits together for our stands at the MLE firework championships, first one is on the 2nd of August !!!!
If we turn up with a big marque with just couple of geeks in UKPS T shirts inside it, we are gonna look like complete tits !!
Can anyone make the 12/13 July or the 19/20th of July ?

I can bring along my rocket press and tooling to fill out any gaps for Stamford hall on 2nd of August.

Thanks Vic that would be great.
I've been working on some inert comps, wood dust/clay/plaster and such like with PVA, inks and powder paints for cutaway fireworks and multi layer star rolling.
Maybe we could come up with something that we could use for doing some rocket ramming ?!?!?
Wat ya recon ?

I am sure we can think of something but charcoal on it's own is crap to work with.
Posted 20 June 2014 - 11:56 PM
Yeah i didn't even try it.
Bentonite or plaster with some black ink should do the job i recon.
Posted 21 June 2014 - 10:17 AM
Clay and plaster seem to have dried fairly well but probably gonna need more ink, might give em a try with powder paint.
Do you think charcoal might work with a decent amount of binder ?

I'll give it a go, do you think 7% will be enough ?
Posted 22 June 2014 - 06:18 PM
Thanks Kenneth. We may well take yo up on that, can you make any of the MLE competition dates ?
I will try the 7% dextrin don't think i have either of the other two.
My other dilemma is how to make a nozzle that can be cut in half without disintegrating. I was thinking maybe plastic padding/P28.

I made some mock stars for my daughters school project - I used some cascamite glue powder (5%) charcoal and some aluminium powder to make them a bit more interesting. I just pressed them - they came out ok.
If you press a rocket nozzle you can cut through it with a hacksaw and they stay together ok (well they did for me)
