Starseeker did you make or buy your screens? have you got any pictures? I made some from plastic tubs but they weren't very good as the drilling process produced rough edges and they were damaging the stars or they were getting stuck.

Hi Rod

Surely you just need mesh screens? I have a load I made from pine frames with various large mesh screens.

Sparky, I think that's the way I will go. Drilling lots of holes in the bottom of a plastic tub with a hand drill isn't fun and bound to end up with just one giant hole :o

I'm still happy to cut screens for people if they want them with the cnc router?

Hi, Phil yes thanks I would be interested, What can you make for small batches of stars so I could screen 5-6mm and 9-10mm or thereabouts. Do you have any pics or prices?

The original thread I started about them seems to have died a death :-)

http://www.pyrosocie...screens +sieves

Im no longer a cnc newbie so dead screens should not be an issue (they could be recycled into sieves anyway if Im smart), If I buy a  load of the plastic tubs then making the whole range should be between £10 and £20 each still including cutting. (maybe a bit less for things like the 25mm screens as they will be fast and easy to do but maybe a little more for the expensive 2mm screens with thousands of holes or the expensive mesh gardes for sieves)

It really does still depend how many we order in one go as if I order 5 they will cost about £5 each more than than if I order 50 or more in one go.

Assuming we have enough interest to buy 50 or more I can calculate prices exactly and get on with it asap. I can probably put my name down for 20 ish already so nearly 1/2 way there............

BTW Im happy to cut another type of box or container but for the work to be worth it I reasoned a decent box was worth the investment?.

Edit: I've found a reasonable supplier who can pretty much match that price for only 5 boxes so basically if a few of us want some I can do it now! (only in grey though but Im not bothered)

I can only do them in the 75mm high boxes (due to the height my CNC will take) and plan to used the 300x400mm size as it makes little difference on price getting smaller ones.

Plastic wont blunt my decent carbide cutters either so that doesn't have to be taken into account either :-)

Ive ordered 15 now so will post up some pictures when I've cut a few for approval :-)

Rod

I found my screens in a garden centre ,

Both are plastic, with one having 6mm holes and the other 3/8, .

Correct I thought it best to show the machine with no Die and tracer lines running but yes your right.

Nice looking machine - its a lot more compact than the ones I've seen online.  I've always meant to make one but have never got round to it.

Here for your approval is the first star screen and a video of the riveting cutting procedure :-)

They look excellent phil! Just love the machine. Do you think they might be a bit big for small batches? Have you got some prices? Rod

There not that big but I do see your point, maybe if you really wanted I could do them 1/2 1/2 so you could simply cover up one half?

from the 15 boxes I've already bought I reckon I can do them at £12 to £15 dependant on the size of the holes, maybe as low as £10 for the larger hole sizes if you want them. (a bit more if doing different sizes on each side as Ill have to write the program for each box)

Id also happily knock off some per box if you got a few at once as it will save me a lot of setting up to do a load at once!
