There is currently no course that proves competence for A&K for the purposes of DIY pyro.
HOWEVER, most recognised training around the subject does go to support an application.

Maxman, no unfortunately not, the main reason is that as Arthur says there is no set "requirements" for your COER so its currently impossible to even construct a course syllabus to do so.
For that we need specifics from the GMP ELO as to what it is he will require, that said this course will show your legal responsibility in handling pyrotechnics, he may end up accepting it but please don't go on the course assuming so! This applies to DannyTSG (I appreciate you already said its to AID your application don't worry) and David G (Robinson Crusoe)
I will however when I speak to them ask for suggestions as to if there is anything they could add on or include that may help you guys more than the normal syllabus.

I've spoken to illuminate yesterday to clarify some points, I need to check with everyone as to availability, I hope to run this in a few months time so apreciate exact dates are hard but am I safe to assume weekends are best across the board?
Prices look good depending on numbers and my ability to find a good venue for low £ which should be no issue :-)

The first one day course trained by IC is now all classroom and quite fast paced giving all the knowledge needed to be PwSK in accordance with the current cat4 regs. Following some examples of blatant cheating, the exam at the end now has to be done in suitable "exam conditions" which usually precludes some of the cheaper smaller venues.
The follow on second day course trained by IC is the Person with Responsibility, which is heavier in law and management skills. Still classroom based.
