As some of you are already aware I suggested on a thread in the members section that a <100g pyro day could be organized by the society but hosted and overseen by pyro chemical suppliers. Phil Cooper (Cooperman) has agreed to be the first pyro shop owner to host such an event.

My original post in the member’s forum:

Ok.

How about experiment/home pyro competition/practical experience days or better still weekends/weeks. These could be organized by the society but with A LOT of help both financial and by the way of organization (finding venue etc) from chemical/pyro goods suppliers.

Not only will this give people and suppliers a venue to meet and do F2F EPP transactions it will also give people the time, place and incentive to use sed chemicals. There will also be plenty of opportunity for people that need to show experience to gain that experience under the watchful eye of knowledgeable members that can if needed confirm sed experience.

This IMHO is a win win situation. The chemical suppliers save a shit load of money and aggravation on shipping, at the same time create more of a customer base. Attendees get cheaper chemicals. Society members get to hang out with like minded people doing fun pyro stuff. People who need experience can get it.

You're welcome!!!

Details (subject to change) are as follows:

Date: 26/09/2015

Venue: Somewhere in a field in Yorkshire

Host: Cooperman 435

Basic set up:

Each person attending who has current A&K and EPP will be allocated an area which they can use for whichever pyro related activity’s they choose. The A&K holders will be responsible for security and safety within their areas.

Dedicated test firing areas will be allocated for each area (A&K holder ) although these may have to be shared subject to numbers attending and space available.

Person’s attending that do not have A&K will be able to gain hands on experience in the dedicated ‘beginners area’ this area will be supervised by a selection of preselected society staff members, these staff members will be the A&K holders for that area. Non A&K holders will also able to observe activity’s in other areas and may be able to take part in some of these activity’s but this will be down to the discretion of the A&K Holder for that area and the host on the the day.

RULES:

1/ Only society members will be allowed to attend. Membership will be available on the day subject to certain conditions.

2/ Numbers will limited 30/40 total. Existing members will be given priority.

3/ No guests ‘guests’ will have to become members on the day.

4/ Strict <100g policy. No premade home pyro to be brought on site.

5/ No dogs except guide dogs ;)

Note

This is not a training day and no certificates will be issued but those attending will be able to get confirmation of attendance and subject to legal clarification possibly something in writing that states wat activity’s you took part in.

Excellent.

May I and my co-workers from Skew Energetics Ltd attend and perhaps run an advice/guidance workshop/clinic during the proceedings?

I'd be interested to attend - it's been a long time since I've been active in this community so it would be interesting to see what has changed!

I'm sorry, how long did you say the fuse was?

Ok well i was hoping for a bit more interest in this.

Can i ask that anyone that is interested to put your names down ASAP, even if you are a 'maybe' could you let us know so.

As i'm sure you can appreciate these events do take a bit of organising so the sooner we have an idea of numbers the easier it will be to make sure facility's are in place for everyone.

If you're not coming, i know West Yorkshire is quite a way for some people, please feel free to let us know why, if it is just a matter of travel and there is enough interest we will look into holding a similar event in a more central location.

i suppose more interest would be made if the A&K  wasnt needed but very few people have this. we need to do a mass application day and get all members signed up as its free.

A&K may be free for amateur use, BUT very few people so far have been granted A&K of those who have applied stating Home pyrotechnic experimentation as the reason. Also A&K requires you to have a place at home to store shooter's powder, suitably securely, in the appropriate container.

Not everyone has good enough criminal history, and enough storage, and passes interview to get A&K.

We might get a bulk EPP application session going somewhere, that seems so far to be easier and more likely to succeed than A&K.

Still definitely interested in attending on the 26th September. I could do with some more details though, such as where and what times, as I may decide to stay overnight nearby on the 25th and 26th.
