These are about as simple as it gets. There will be many ways of doing these, but this is what I do.
1.) Place BP charge in a small plastic bag with the ematch and tie off/seal (a couple of stars here can be useful). There is no need to turn this into a maroon by wrapping it endlessly with tape unless you are using pans and not mortars.
2.) Drop down the mortar diameter of you choice. (Yes just a normal fibreglass mortar)
3.) I then put a very thin walled bag into the top of the mortar and fill the powder into it letting it start to slide into the mortar as I fill it.
4.) When the correct amount is in the bag I close the neck, tie it off with tape or a zip tie and snip off the remainder of the bag.
5.) Let the plug of powder in the bag fall to the bottom of the mortar (may need a gentle push).
6.) Fire at will
OK the next questions will be what size charge and how much powder etc.
Well the options are endless here depending on exactly what effect you want.
I like 6" mortars with 2 - 4 kg of powder with about 60g - 90g of lift depending on grade etc, for nice big fireballs rolling 30ft + into the air. You can feel the heat on your face from a good distance away, nice.
Cost well the depends on what you pay for the BHT, from a chemical distributer I would expect up to £4 a kilo, I pay 25p to a £1 and no I'm not telling where I get it from as I don't want any competition for it.
The sequence below is of a 6" lift, it is not pure BHT (about 60%) as I tuned the colour towards the yellow side for this one. You can see the barbed wire fence which is about 20 - 30m from the mortar IIRC for some idea of scale.

Here you go, a bit of video. These are the some of the first ones I did, I tend to use more BHT and less of the other ingredient these days as I prefer them a bit more orange.
