Can anybody suggest the composition(s) for this type of fountain? The bright flashes come from Magnalium I guess.

Thanks

Hello Bengal pyro,

My guess is it is a crackle fountain although the sound isn't great. If so I think Ferro-titanium is used for that,

Try searching 'crackle fountain' or 'crackle mix' on the forum.

Loads of compositions out there.

Simple

Hi Ken,

Just wondering if you could elaborate on "Simple"!

I know you have some knowledge on this.

Thanks.

Dragons eggs are used for the crackle.

i have to say I didn't think that looked like classic dragons eggs,

I thought it looked more like a "spritzel" very drossy burn type fountain

dragons eggs tend to explode surely, and there was no real cracks present in the video

maybe a slight strobe effect was present ?

I think it's fairly large mesh MgAl. I have made a similar effect with about 60 mesh.

Crackling stars have a distinctive burst pattern and this fountain doesn't contain Dragon eggs   IMHO.

For example a crackling fountain:

I'm just wondering what metal was used in this fountain,  Magnalium(large mesh) as mentioned by mortartube or Ferro-Titanium?

Thanks

It's simple, as Ken said... It's Dragon's eggs microstars.  Just more towards the "time-rain" end of the spectrum.

I agree with bengal_pyro that these don't look or sound like any form of crackle that I've seen.

If I were going to try and reproduce this effect I'd start with microstars made with a bright white composition, such as one based on barium nitrate and fine magnalium. Maybe adding some sulphur - making it more like one of the early white strobe compositions - might be the way to go.

There are some posts over on APC which pretty much show this effect - they are a version of crackle.  Search for Time Rain over there.

you'd probably get close with a variation on Fuch's Pop Glitter also.

It's a fountain with some kind of sparkle, Whether it's time rain based or granular magnalium based ... Maybe it's dependent on what the maker had available.
