How is everyone doing? It is technically now the three week selling period- other than work, I don't go out much so haven't seen much on sale. I know it's going to be another challenging year with supplies etc. That said, I'm already looking forwards to hearing a few things going off- in years gone by, it was such a happy time for me!

I haven't seen or heard any premature fireworks so far this year, which is a bit unusual, maybe people don't have the money for big garden displays. I've not really seen many in shops, my local Tesco doesn't have them on display, you order from an in-store catalogue and someone fetches them for you.

As for me, I'll e making my own for a family party on the 5th and intend to start tomorrow.

I heard a few really loud ones last night, but nothing else. But I'm not in such a busy town now. About 15 years ago, I remember being in Preston the week before Bonfire night. There was so much stuff going off through the evening in the run up.

I think you are right though, people probably being quite frugal.

I have managed to get Bonfire Night off work, so might set off the last few bit's of my collection. I have a few men shun items left from circa 2003-2007. Was pretty run of the mill at the time, but will be good see! Secret Action etc, the 36 shot hexagon, for example!

edit- as I was typing, as if by magic, I heard a really loud multishot going off. Not nearby, either. Must be some powerful stuff!

Despite my earlier post, it seems to have started around here with several loud fireworks going off at around 8pm yesterday evening. This was preceded by some muppets that decided to let one off, probably a cake, around 3 am yesterday morning!

I was already awake so wasn't too bothered but, I'll bet that people closer to it were woken up. There were certainly several loud bangs reminiscent of air bombs along with a number of quieter "pops".

Yeah, I heard some crazy loud stuff last night. Air Bombs (of a kind) are still around, I think. But even allowing for that, there was quite a volume !

I have been driving around Preston the last couple of night, saw quite a few churches and pubs with displays planned- always good to see! And saw just a couple of seasonal type shops. Tonight there were a few decent looking bits going off, most likely for Diwali. But nothing close to the atmosphere of the glory days 15 or so years ago, though!

Stopped by Aldi and was going to buy something- because I can't buy nothing- but couldn't find my credit card! So this will actually be the first year in, what, at least 35+ years where I haven't bought anything for bonfire night. :'(

I suggest a nice bottle of wine, a chair in the garden, a blanket to wrap up in then watch everyone else's fireworks.

Totally! It was actually a really nice night here, much going off, could hear bangs from about 6pm - 9pm almost without interruption, but then it was the perfect night for sound to travel.
