Bp made with lampblack.

Hmm...... you're not going to get very far trying to make BP with lampblack... well, you would get a black powder, but it wouldn't do very much.

Members ? when opening a new thread ? please give your thread a meaningful name. For example ? Bp with lampblack!

Now ? Creepin ? would you care to explain why it would not do much?

I would think that since the lampblack is so fine...? Im guessing that maybe you cant get lampblack to soak up wet KNO3. isnt lampblack more of a pure carbon? What would happen if you did use pure carbon? Crush up some diamonds maybe... Maybe I should have put this in the chemistry forum

It makes a great streamer star composition.

Lampblack burns too slow for lift BP, but as a propellant in a fountian the effect is actually quite beautiful.

I recently aquired a whole load o' lampblack. I was bored, and tried making some BP, treating the lampblack as charcoal to see what happened. So, I ended up with some :

75 - Kn03
15 - Lampblack
10 - Sulphur

Mabye I did something seriously wrong, but the mix was completely useless, just fizzling a little. Mabye it's not lampblack

Probably - real lampblack will ignite very easily (in fact as easily as BP), and is usefull in both fountins and stars (not as lift, as alany said). Some Lampblacks produce branching yellow sparks which are quite beautiful.

I have pure carbon (I'll mill it when I get my mill to work), what'll that do as a BP?

Edit: Or did alany just answer that *slaps forehead*. Elaborate a little if y'could.

Bulk Lamp black is used in the rubber industry to strengthen and harden compounds. Their available blacks are different according to their manufacture and the carbon particle size and the characteristic impurities Lampblack contains vapourised oil so it is not pure C but all the carbon blacks are very fine. -- and messy. The acetylene blacks are good for making conductive rubbers.

Oh Boy. i made my first green meal today. its A little more damp then what you would need to squeeze it and have it hold together. It burns about a foot per second and spits small prills of potassium Nitrate. Im milling some as I write this.
